Too easy to say Coyle out. How do we go forward from here?

If/when Holloway sets his team up like Clueless is doing, I'll think he's lost his marbles as well

seeing as he is the manager of another club who at the start of the season were our promotion rivals, I am not paticulary arsed as to how he sets his team up but just throwing it out there that maybe he is not as good as he is perceivedCAPSLOCK wrote:If/when Holloway sets his team up like Clueless is doing, I'll think he's lost his marbles as well

Think we need someone who can see both ends of the pitch. Had Coyle gone at the end of last season, then Holloway, with a closed season might have been able to get some players in. But I'd still have been nervous then. Don't think I'd want him to try and manage this lot. It needs someone who can understand defence as well as attack.

Isnt it odd how everythings on twitter for us all to see and add up to our own conclusions.
I'm hopefull he goes tomorrow on the basis of davo's wag tweet...but I doubt gartside has a replacement lined up.

Apparently, Gartside knows McCarthy would be a "popular" choice. That's us told then.IggyTheDawgster wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... ds-newsxml

Id give Mick my support. Im not sure he would be my first choice; but Coyle was my first choice last time so what do I know?

He's also Blackburn fans choice in a poll between him and Roy. So he's, At the moment, Got the pick of two.

I suspect the £££££££'s effect might also have a bearing on who we both get.officer_dibble wrote:Forgot they were after a boss as well

Just for the conspiracy theorists, I think both Sammy Lee and Megson were sacked on a Wednesday...

I like McCarthy as a bloke but tactically wouldn't it be the same as Coyle? He wasn't well known to divert away from a bog standard 4-4-2. It'll at least be somewhat organised which can't be said of Coyle.

Re: Too easy to say Coyle out. How do we go forward from he
One thing is for certain, assuming we choose from the suggestions made so far on here, is that the continuity from the BSA era has now all gone. The appointment of OC was meant to be another long term appointment aimed at moving the whole club forward. Clearly it has failed. We are pretty much starting from scratch again (back to 1999). The next appointment therefore is likely to be a short term appointment with a remit of turning around the fortunes of the first team, and using our 2 year financial advantage from the Premiership to mount a promotion campaign. Maybe it is for the best. BSA was a one off in that he had absolute passion for BWFC, a big vision to improve all aspects of the club, and the managerial ability to make a lot of it happen. OC is just a bubbly character who people warm to, he has shown he has very little true managerial ability, and certainly the job of managing all aspects of the club is probably not one he is suited to. Perhaps its best in future to keep the managers job a simple one, and if we want to develop other aspects of the club then employ a director of football, or a general manager to do so.
Mick McCarthy, if we can get him, is perhaps the best and obvious choice. He has shown himself to be able to come into declining clubs in the championship and turn their fortunes around and get them promoted. He usually does it by getting players from lower leagues and developing them, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the likes of CYL, Mark Davies, Petrov etc. I suspect we would lose a lot of these and see cheaper, down to earth replacements that might not look particularly inspiring initially.
Of the other options, I doubt Curbishley or Redknapp would move up norf anyway (I'd love Redknapp here but he aint leaving the English Riviera to manage us I feel), Holloway would be an exciting choice, but not sure if we'd go down the road of another expensive, controversial steal from one of our neighbours, and the rest of the British choices are very uninspiring. I'm not sure we are in a position to gamble on a European manager, or for them to be interested to come here. I certainly don't think PG is likely to want to go down that route. Whoever we choose, this is a very jittery time to be a BWFC fan. If the next, likely short term fix doesn't work, then we soon become a declining championship club, and with PG probably nearing retirement, and ED getting on, we aren't far way from another dark decade like the 80s. Anyway, lets not think too far ahead...Mick McCarthy, super white army has a certain ring to it.

Another thought:
Those who demanded a more exciting brand of football than the perceived long ball era of BSA...is this still a consideration? Would you now agree that style of football is now relegated as a consideration behind arresting the slide of our beloved club?

Absolutely. Bring back the hoofball if it means us getting back into the Premiership.bristol_Wanderer3 wrote:Another thought:
