I think we broadly agree, just perhaps not on the urgency or timescales.Prufrock wrote:
There's somewhat of a difference between a 34 year old Zat Knight and a 26 year-old keeper. One is an asset, one a liability (boom!). And for what it's worth you'll find plenty who would have advocated selling Knight last summer (though not necessarily to protect his value).
Of course there's a risk he'll (AB) turn out to be shite again, but if you follow that logic they'd all get month-to-month contracts. We have to guess at what we think Boggers is worth to us, and offer what we can. No-one should be getting premier league contracts anymore, no matter how good they are.
If he's leaving, well we're going to have to replace him next summer anyway, so try to get rid. If we can get some money for him, hooray, as that makes it easier, plus we've got a year less of paying him premier league wages. If we can't get rid of him, we're in no different a position than your 'wait and see'.
He can't talk to another club till January 2015 and only then foreign ones. I don't think he is that hot a property right at this minute, so we have till January IMO to make our minds up.
By that time we will have a better idea of how our season is going and how Bogdan is doing.
And furthermore should things develop during that period we can offer him a deal at any point.
Re: Adam Bogdan
Yeah, but once the window *slams* shut, we can't sell him until January either. Unlike the likes of Knight, I wouldn't be surprised if foreign clubs were looking at Boggers (does Chungy not fall into this category too? Can't remember when his contract runs out). And teams are unlikely to be looking for a keeper in January unless there's an injury. I just think our chances of getting a decent fee for him are much better now than in Jan, plus it would be much less disruptive if he went now. This get em young and sell em model is surely the way to go, but it doesn't work if we don't sell them!
I just can't see what we lose by doing it now, other than we might give a fairly good contract to someone who might turn out to be less good than we hoped, but jeez, we'd never sign anyone if we took that view; you can never be sure.

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

only if we've held back enough dosh from the budget to do so...BWFC_Insane wrote:I think we broadly agree, just perhaps not on the urgency or timescales.Prufrock wrote:
