Answers earlier in the thread...jonnycooper wrote:I would also hope Eidur is,nt using us as a vehicle to try and gain 1 last hurrah for Iceland? Unfinished business with his international squad and all that..I,d be interested to learn just how he ended up back here.Maybe me being a bit cynical but he surely won,t need any money! So salary hopefully does,nt really interest him now.

Unfinished business with his international squad. Who does that sound like? *Cough, that's Youri too, cough* .

Exactly, if he still wants to play for Iceland at an age when many are hanging up their boots to spend more time on the golf cou... with their families, that sounds like a hungry player to me. He can't be expecting a big wage, he could probably get that in the US,or Qatar or somewhere. For me his motivation is not question, nor his affection for the club, simply his legs.Prufrock wrote:Unfinished business with his international squad. Would not be surprised to hear he has signed for us around dinner time tomorrow. Get everybody excited ready for the game Saturday.

I fear Huddersfield is a game I won't be able to make, but that doesn't let you off the hook.
I fancy my next game will be at the New Den.
Next trip to the Macron may not be 'til January.

Re: Gudjohnsen training with the squad
This is a stupid argument anyway.
We've had a squad full of passengers for the last couple of seasons. On balance, I'd rather have a high-profile passenger who might put a few hundred on the gate and get us all going with a warm glow of nostalgia than a never-has-been-and-never-will-be going through the motions.
If his wage demands are no higher than Beckford, we've very little to lose, and everything to gain. Gamble. Now.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

He actually had a trial in Seattle a few years back. I think we offered him peanuts, maybe $60,000 a year?LeverEnd wrote:Exactly, if he still wants to play for Iceland at an age when many are hanging up their boots to spend more time on the golf cou... with their families, that sounds like a hungry player to me. Without reading too much into it (ok that's exactly what I'm doing)...Jermaine Beckford is going on loan to Preston, which means we are definitely signing Eidur.Prufrock wrote:PG, listen to that man!Lord Kangana wrote:This is a stupid argument anyway.

Re: Gudjohnsen training with the squad
Sorry to be anti-internet but I think it's entirely possible that Eidur will sign and be neither a roaring success nor a flaming failure.
Beckford's departure and Mavies's injury open up a couple of holes, but I suspect Eidur might only be a half-hour man operating in a precise role in a 4-2-3-1 - the No.10 position which Chungy has been thoroughly enjoying. Any deal might have to reflect the fact that we may not get that many on-pitch man-hours from him. As Lennon says in the BN, "Whether we do anything will be guided by his general level of fitness."
Meanwhile, unless we're relying on who we've already got - Mason? Clayton? Eaves?? - Beckford's absence means we might need another striker. If it's a wage-cap straight fight between Eidur and Hooper, I might lean toward the younger man.

Yes I suppose only a few make the big bucks. I'm sure there's somewhere he could make more than here though.H. Pedersen wrote:He actually had a trial in Seattle a few years back. Re: Gudjohnsen training with the squad
Yeah, only the big names make a ton of money in MLS. Dempsey and Bradley make around £80k a week and Keane makes around £55k a week, but then there's a huge drop. Reo-Coker was making around £5,500 p/w and the bottom guys (guys who came through the American college system) only make about £450 p/w.LeverEnd wrote:Yes I suppose only a few make the big bucks. I guess we'll have to wait a week or two until he's played those games..“We’re hoping to get him involved now in a couple of bounce games, or even a reserve game over the next week or 10 days,” the manager said.
“We’ve seen him train and he looks good but I’d be interested to see him on a bigger stage.”
