John McGinlay saying it as it is.

Well it works to a point. When you have vastly greater resources (like we did in league two) you can play a better calibre of football successfully. But now he’s got league one players and he’s trying to play champagne football against players of a similar level. It’s not working.
We might pump Exeter 3-0 next weekend but you can’t do the same thing away from home against better sides in this league.
Feels like the beginning of the end now. What I feared after Oxford if he didn’t walk then.

I wonder who Evatt will blame for this, I highly doubt that it will be himself and his abysmal tactics.
He really does need to go as this could get worse.

We won’t go up with Evatt. I’ve been convinced of that for 18 months. I know I’ve irritated people in that belief but it’s a core and deep view that hasn’t shaken. He’s not got what is required. Whatever is required he’s not got it. And he’s not going to get it here.
The same problems that existed for the past two seasons are here but worse because we’ve gone from a system that is very difficult to play at this level to one that is entirely impossible in any reality to play.
The same problems that two of his key players are unfortunately not good enough when it matters in Sheehan and Santos - and we are still playing both and playing a system entirely for one. A player who makes a mockery of this club. A club captained by some of the great Bolton characters who would have given blood for the club now has a bloke who can barely raise himself from a slumber some afternoons. You can’t allow that, you can’t allow what he did this afternoon. But we do.
The club lacks ruthlessness from top to bottom. Put Parky in as manager and we’d go up with the resources Sharon has offered. She saved us and can do what she likes. But I’m completely disillusioned with rewarding failure and not making what are very clear and obvious calls.
You can’t run a football club like this. People can’t be allowed to do the same thing over and over. Have the same failures over and over. And try and brush them under the carpet. Wembley was the classic ‘didn’t see it coming, can’t explain it’. Well many did and can.
And we’ll win next week and all the ‘see Evatt is on the right track’ will start. We are flat track bullies and let’s be honest have been for three seasons. We win when opponents are not good enough or mess up and let us. We don’t go into proper fights and win - it’s incredibly rare. Bruce Rioch had a league one team beating premiership sides. We took on big spending and physically intimidating wolves and won. Against the odds. This side won’t ever do that. Not with this manager.

I’d swap managers with them in a heartbeat.

Ah well, at least Morley got a win today, Sadlier with a goal and an assist.
Formation is shit, made incredibly worse by the performance.
I've no doubt we're bringing in better players, but letting our standards slip and handicapping ourselves with that formation.
Back to back games without goals. Abysmal.

Useless.
Tactically they didn't have a clue and none of them showed up for work.
None of the new lads offered anything to improve us and all the old lads were their worst selves.
They can all share the blame. Loads of it to go around today.

Needs to get a grip. Quick. He'll probably grab a win that keeps the faithful. Our improved defence shipped two. All this with "this is the way it's done if you wanna be good." The King is currently in his altogether...

Three. None of them hitting the target. Wayward swipes.
Highlights on. Baxter passes to Rico for the first goal, lets the pressure come on to him and then passes it straight to their player. Why are we passing to Rico there? Its the same pass Baxter could make without the pressure.

It’s just some fecking mad shit idea that you can go away from home to a physical decent side at this level with a centre midfield two, one of which is Sheehan. It’s fecking bonkers.

McGinlay is bang on. You need width. Width that hits the byline and gets crosses in. That wants the ball and wants to run with it. We have none. Zero of that. No player who can do it. We need two wingers. And to be rid of this dreadful system.
Wingers and overlapping full backs. Imagine that, something to get excited for, instead of this.

The set up in midfield is crackers.
I thought we should've shaken hands with Evatt in the summer and gone our separate ways and nothing I've seen since has changed my view.

It's baffling isn't it. Everyone can see it and yet Evatt persists.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 5:00 pmIt’s just some fecking mad shit idea that you can go away from home to a physical decent side at this level with a centre midfield two, one of which is Sheehan. It’s fecking bonkers.
Sure we've got players coming back to cover, ala Vic late on for their second, but they're not trained for that.
Make ourselves hard to beat and go from there. Both goals were our own fault. Vic turning inside instead of going wide. Shambles. Vic was probably one of better performers aswell. Santos passing to him when he's under pressure from two people probably doesn't help.
Ah well fk this. Bring on Tuesday.

I think we've got too much width as it stands. Collins and McAtee were both frequently out wide today which meant that our wingbacks couldn't progress up the pitch into that space as its already occupied.
I agree that we need wingers that cross from the byline, but out starting positioning, tactically its whats costing us.

His record so far is basically identical to Neal’s. Based on the start this season I’d say he has a fair chance of completely matching that record. Makes me feel quite upset at the prospect that Sharon will and is letting another season slip by.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 5:02 pmThe set up in midfield is crackers.

Well neither are wingers. And his stupid box midfield system is absolutely nonsensical. Evatt says it was built to ‘beef up midfield’ yet predictably it’s doing the opposite.Mar wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 5:07 pmBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 5:02 pmMcGinlay is bang on. Evatt over complicates the game with his pound shop Pep approach.
Nothing and I mean nothing has changed in his management approach from last season, he's learned nothing. Playing Sheehan in a midfield 2 is suicidal. He's being regularly out coached and out thought by opposition managers and he hasn't got any answers.

We are 5 points behind 3 teams, despite needing a quick start to convince doubters he can get us up this time.
But hey, at least he's lost some weight. Good on him.
