Just means Toal nearer to that left side again.
Mind you he’s been shite on the right so far.

Wow, great. This transfer deadline day has been great. I love watching the squad get worse on the last day it could get better.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:13 pmHe's said it's an outgoing, leaving a space in the squad.

No, though there would be big questions to ask if Johnston's knee suddenly starter swelling up on him and we'd left a lefty defender go.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:14 pmI’m not convinced we absolutely need a direct Iredale replacement should he be the one going.
Toal is a weakness on the left, for me. Forino has played there. Maybe he'd be better, but he was very direct in the role.

Numerically, I agree. Tactically, at LCB I'm not sure any of them except Johnston scream "title-winner".BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:14 pmSantos, Forino, Jones, Toal, Johnstonofficer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:03 pmGot to be Iredale or Williams. Which would point to a defender being signed?
5 for 3 spots. Assuming Forrester isn’t back that quickly. Add in JDC as possible on right side too.

I suspect Jones may be cover for Johnston as "sub-six-footer, good on the ball" – not sure both can play at once unless we're playing against midgets. Two of Santos/Toal/Forino maintaining the height.

I know what you mean but the noises are that we're getting a free agent in, which presumably is going to strengthen us.Mar wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:17 pmWow, great. Nor does the current iteration of Iredale, as much as I like the guy.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:19 pmNumerically, I agree. Tactically, at LCB I'm not sure any of them except Johnston scream "title-winner".

You and a lot of teams we played last season. He was regularly the player who triggered the oppo press.

I wonder what Iles meant by the outgoing possibly shifting ideas on who the freebie might be.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:21 pmNor does the current iteration of Iredale, as much as I like the guy.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:19 pmNumerically, I agree. Has been for a while. He was basically a Barnsley playmaker in the first round of play-off games.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:21 pmHe was regularly the player who triggered the oppo press.
He's improved with the ball. I like him generally. On the right he's far less of a problem now. On his left...
He's 25 and a centre half. 3-4 years off his peak. We can't afford a lot of patience this season, but I don't want to sound like I'm writing him off. He's been a terrific signing.

I like Toaly. I wonder if he's good enough on the ball. Especially on the left.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:25 pmHas been for a while. Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
He would be a great league 1 centre half in a simple system, could be in a back 4, just as long as he wasn’t expected to be a playmaker as well as a defender. No issue with Toal but as the likeliest person to end up left centre half in this team if we lose Johnston it’s a worry!

Iredale has been talking to Hibs today apparently.

Money for an expiring contract would be positive, I suppose.

In terms of the reality of finances at the club, if Forrester were fit then this would just be fine.
We have 7 centre backs, we need 6.
One is injured, but that's why we have 6 on the books.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Iredale has never really been a first choice kind of player sadly. A small fee, an exporing contract offcthe books and free squad place? Add to that an out of contract incoming or loanee and it could be a good bit of business. Add the steel to the situation that Evatt is becoming ruthless to his players if they screw up then the whole squad may just up their collective game. Win win all round.

Aye maybe Forester back sooner - shame he’s not a leftie!GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:49 pmIn terms of the reality of finances at the club, if Forrester were fit then this would just be fine.

Equally, from the player's position, Hibs likely want him as a left back in a 4 - so he can defend to the line and not worry so much about turning back on himself on that knee.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:50 pmIredale has never really been a first choice kind of player sadly.

Might be something we could fix in January, with Jones' deal expiring.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 11:51 pmAye maybe Forester back sooner - shame he’s not a leftie!
Minimum of 24 games until then. If it all goes tits up then that's potentially the season gone; but if your season goes based on a 70%-right Jack Iredale what on earth has happened?
