Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Wenger won't put his hand in his pocket for Cahill. Every penny he spends adds more pressure to succeed and he can no longer deliver success. That's why he buys all these young pansies that tippy tappy it about and get injured a lot.m so he can have ready made excuses for being shite, but at least you play 'the right way' eh?
Besides, Cahill supposedly wants regular Champions League football. I reckon that can rule the Gunners out for next season at the very least.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Put it this way.. Arsenal are a regular top 4 Champions League club.. They get gates of 60,000 practically every week..
He seemingly doesn't get much money to spend... Yet why does he not moan about his lack of funds?
Because he refuses to spend the money that is on offer.
I read a report a while back (can't remember where) but according to their accounts and the views of the board, Arsenal could easily afford to give out around £60-70 Million in the transfer window should Wenger require it

Wenger said yesterday that he could and would spend £40m on Mr Right. Maybe the ageing spinster should settle for Mr Right Now.

Do you think this £40 Million 'Mr Right' would go to Arsenal?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Wenger said yesterday that he could and would spend £40m on Mr Right. Maybe the ageing spinster should settle for Mr Right Now.

looks like cahills going to liverpoo
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Money obviously isn't an issue. Arsenal aren't Man City, but they're not Everton either. They could've bought Cahill for not much more than they've spent on either Oxlade-Chamberlin or Gervinho this summer.

It's not an issue for Arsenal, but as I've said for ages.. It's an issue for Wenger

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I agree, but not for the reasons you outlined at the top of this page. He's already bought two players this summer for fees not a million miles away from what we'd accept for Cahill, so spending money obviously doesn't equal pressure to him.
His actual reasons? I've no idea. He's a mad old bastard. Or he thinks we're overpricing Cahill. Or both.

A bollocks account, and I hope the report is bollocks. Rumours circulating that we have agreed a fee with Liverpool.

Bob Wilson was on the radio the other day saying Wneger gets very upitty when he feels people are overpricing a player because its Arsenal. But that not only does he have money, he is willing to spend it, but it becomes a bit of a blind spot when he takes his ball home if he thinks a club is trying to rip him off. I suppose its just another angle on it.Tombwfc wrote:I agree, but not for the reasons you outlined at the top of this page. You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

"I intend to get value for money and want to do the best I can for the football club. I feel there needs to be sense in the transfer market, and that's the way I go about it. If I think someone is worth £3m, I'm not paying £5m because I think that we as a club are being ripped off."
Oh no hang on, that's Coyle...

Either way, it doesn't take a great leap of imagination to suspect that theres a far greater probability of Arsene having lots of cash and not spending it for whatever reason.

No indeed. They've got pots of cash. I love watching former Gunners wheeled on to the telly and trying to balance indignation, amazement, bemusement and cap-doffing.

It was a little sycophantic. At least Lee Dixon apologised on air for calling Arsenal "we" when in the employ of auntie beeb.

Wenger and Coyle may just both like to look after whatever cash they have carefully. Trouble is Wenger just looks like someone out of his depth at the minute as his universe crumbles beneath him!

I'm sure any manager wants to husband his resources.
I'm not sure theres a comparison to be made particularly between Wenger and Coyle though.
And frankly, I've always suspected The Emirates was a bigger noose round the neck of his spending plans a couple of seasons back than the club ever let on, hence why he spectacularly failed to rebuild the (bloody) "Immortals". I think he's been chasing his tail ever since.

With his best players asking to leave, no trophies for 6 years and Board and fans on his back I suspect Wenger is having a crisis of confidence and is afraid to pull the trigger on new non flashy foreign signings for the first team. An English CB is not sexy enough.

Coyle in his own words models himself on Wenger. And there are definitely different buying styles, see Wenger as opposed to Redknapp or Steve Bruce!Lord Kangana wrote:I'm sure any manager wants to husband his resources.

There is nothing wrong with saying you won't overpay and will wait for the right players. But when you use that as a noose around your own neck then you might need to reconsider, at least until you have a stable settled, successful side again!
