First few with his head - no bad thing.
Not shy with his left either.
Usual clip-reel caveat but the bloke knows where the net is.

Delf needs to go now. He's 30 and he still has plenty to offer to a side in League Two. With Sadlier arriving he's now at least 2 players from the first team in every position he can play in.

Be worth getting that number 10 to partner with him going off that!

Also takes penalties. Has scored 13 out of 16, although he did have his last one saved earlier this season by Sheff Wed's Burnley loanee Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Which teams, by level, have had better windows than us in the English leagues?
Looks like Villa would be a good shout. Anyone else?
With my usual caveat that most transfer fail, if we were to get Dempsey it's hard to see how much more the recruitment team could have done to give the manager the tools he wants to do his job.
If we can do as good a job with the defensive unit in the summer we may be onto something.

Only other one of the current squad to score one for us is Bakayoko I think.

Very hard to carp with the front-end additions (although some may try...)GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:04 pmWhich teams, by level, have had better windows than us in the English leagues?

I still think we're short of quality cover across the defensive unit - the back four/five and, despite your elegant protestations earlier today, I would have liked us to get a DM in. But aye, we've had very much worse windows than this. And maybe more new faces to come...

Good signing for me. Sure I read somewhere he's played LWB as well on occasion?

Yeah, I'm still hoping Dempsey will come in and you'd have to think he is now destined to play a deeper 6/8 role and push MJ and Morley for their places.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:24 pmVery hard to carp with the front-end additions (although some may try...)

There are bound to be some of the attacking lot whose faces no longer fit in the summer, but it's hard to see that compartment needing major work in the next 12-18 months. It'll hopefully be a case of seeing a ridiculously good striking talent come in and pushing us on yet again, but generally we look very strong now.
Loads to do at the back and yes I agree we are light there now and may stay that way until summer (nothing at all on that Tyrese Owen bloke); but compared to where we were January 1st I have zero complaints. If we were waving magic wands I'd have had another centre back in, but we're not. The recruitment team deserve some serious congratulations when the window closes.
It's now up to the manager to turn this collection of players into a serious team.

Against his will, apparently. Was in the interview his (now former) manager gave. Played there, but made it clear he wasn't happy and it's one of the reasons he left.sonicthewhite wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:48 pmGood signing for me. Sure I read somewhere he's played LWB as well on occasion?
Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
If we get Dempsey in then we're really well-stocked for the next 18 months, a few adjustments at the back aside.

Warne: "He didn't want to play as a wing-back for me. He made that clear. I didn't sign him as a wing-back but since I signed him we've changed system."GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:50 pmAgainst his will, apparently. And the board, who've put hands in pockets. Evatt has been careful to thank them several times already. Sadlier fee "undisclosed" but Charles was £300k+, Morley £100k+, and £150k+ offered for Dempsey.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:49 pmThe recruitment team deserve some serious congratulations when the window closes.

Just hope Evatt isn't producing similar quotes about Dapo 6-12 months from now.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:59 pmWarne: "He didn't want to play as a wing-back for me. Couple of wee pops in there at Rotherham, methinks... "the way they play" and mention of Doncaster...It’s been a long time coming but, honestly, I’m so happy to be here. I came here at the start of the season and thought ‘what a great club it is’, with the stadium, the fans and the way they play. When they made it aware they wanted me there was no other place I wanted to come. That’s the truth so I’m really happy to be here.
I knew the interest last summer and I felt at home when I came here. I said that I wanted to come because I wasn’t playing as much there (at Rotherham). I wanted to come here and play. I loved what the gaffer was doing, the way he was playing, which suits me, and is one of the main reasons I’ve come here. I’ve come to a club I feel like is an extremely big club and I just can’t wait to be involved in it.
Hopefully I can hit the ground running and show what I can do. Playing in a team which is my style of football, I can’t wait to get going. I think coming here will really suit me and I can show again what I did at Doncaster in this league. I had a good 18 months at Doncaster and really enjoyed it there and performed really well.
I then had a little taste of the Championship last season, when I had an injury as well, and I think that was my taster and I really want to get back there with this club. I’m going to work really hard to do that. The club is on the up – getting promotion last year. You only have to look at the stadium and everything around it to know it’s got the potential to go back up again and hopefully we can do that.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Thread
Yes, absolutely. It's the wages as much as anything. Are we up to 6 now? They're covering injured players whose wages they are still paying, so good on them. You could argue that it's investment that we avoided in the summer, but at least it is happening.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:59 pmAnd the board, who've put hands in pockets. Speaking to someone, the "fee" for Sadlier was probably sub 20k and designed to make sure they weren't out of pocket when settling up some of Sadlier's contract and doing the work on the deal. Overall, though, we've made a significant investment in a tricky window, especially if Dempsey rocks up.

Sadlier says the right things, just hope he fits in because he seems a real player. Welcome to Bolton mate and long may you stay. Wish you well.
