Yep good point. So where is the backup? The couple of foreign loans who will chip in a few games when we're short and perhaps even add some quality in one area?
maybe Coyle takes the eminently sensible view that IF YOUR TARGETS 9for one reason or another) DO NOT COME OFF - then it is a crap idea to spunk your wad on players you don't really want and are not really up to it - and that it is better to stick with what you've got - with players due to come back from injury.

Still balls in the air

Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko

Bolton made a 3m bid for pretty good player. Club wants double. Negotiating. Also made bid for young un. Has to stay quiet as top 4 rival

We're clearly done. Not a chance of anyone (first team level) coming in other than Ream and the Japanese fellow.
Are you really that surprised ? - we're talking BWFC in a transfer window that we've had 4 months to plan for, usual Bolton all talk & no action....wasting valuable time chasing impossible targets so that they can say 'we tried hard but....!'

Ebi Smolerek anyone ?
FFS possibly one of the slowest windows for a long while.. Not even money bags QPR have done that much.. Wigan and the dingles have done nothing of note either.. Wolves have got a loan in.. Noticing a pattern here?
Now now. Don't spoil PT's 'fun'.

When you're bidding 3M for players out of the blue on the last day that are valued at 6 by their clubs....its all over.....

Yeah, but you need to ensure that you take some loans to make sure you're not short.

Even that Puygrenier chipped in a few games, even scored once or twice...might not have been great, but gave us backup at least.

As it stands we're short in crucial areas.

Its just a thought - but I wonder if the club we've offered the £3M to will tell us to do one, just a thought because we're only offering half of what they want - a bit like Zaha....why not try for a few players who we can afford !

I'm certainly not saying we should spunk money that we haven't really got - but surely these are 'unrealistic' targets when we waste valuable time offering half of what the clubs are asking for just on the off chance....

Just because a club values a player at x amount it doesn't mean they are worth that. Coyle has said all along he has a value for players and won't go over that value. You don't get if you don't ask!

hang on BWFCi... at the time, you wrote this:
BWFC_Insane wrote:Boyata is a top prospect. If we get him he'll be in ahead of Steinsson IMO at right back. But will be useful for covering other areas should the need arise.

Wait and see if we get him but he would certainly help out at the back.
and this..

you "nailed your colours to the mast" - naming Boyata in your preferred starting lineup - and told us he is a top prospect who should be ahead of Steinner..

now you're calling Coyle for wasting a loan spot on him????
That was the theory, but I'm not paid to do the job Coyle is doing am I?

I seem to remember you were hoping we spunked a considerable amount of money on Leroy Lita when we signed Rasiak Bish....so lets not pretend that you are "sensible" and above "transfer madness".

I don't know what some people expect on here....I really don't.
We had a big list of targets that Coyle believed will improve us. He's had the likes of Crystal Palace refuse our offer, Dos Santos not want to play for us and Iturbe deal get shut down at the last minute as the manager still wants him around despite hardly playing a minute.

Coyle obviously had a list of targets but there is not much u can do when those targets are either not available or not wanting to come here. I'd much rather not waste money on players Coyle doesn't believe can improve us then spend a bucketload on players who will just warm the bench.

People get so negative when they see no one of note come in.
People get negative when no-names are signed.
People get negative when we chase bigger names but they won't come here.

This isn't football manager, you can't just click a few buttons and suddenly everyone wants to come to Bolton!

1252: Middlesbrough have turned down a £6m bid from Bolton for defender Rhys Williams, the Press Association are reporting

From the BBC.

It's not for the lack of trying that we don't have players coming in.

Thanks for this....I didn't realise that OC was so clever

I'm not saying that the player is worth what the club is asking, I'm saying if a club is approached and asked 'how much for player x', and they tell us £6M - why would they accept £3M unless they were desperate to offload the player.
