I don’t get it, why hasn’t he been snapped up by clubs at a higher level?
Injuries and lifestyle issues.

Aaron Connolly has plied his trade for Brighton in the PL, and three Championship clubs, as well as playing in Italy. According to wiki he’s represented Ireland at U17, U19, U21 and he has full caps for the Irish Republic too. He’s only 24, not even in his prime but he has bags of experience and he hasn’t found a club since being released by Hull City over the summer.

I don’t get it, why hasn’t he been snapped up by clubs at a higher level?
Fitness, wage demands for lower champ/league 1?
Evatt has signed a few players this summer with dubious fitness issues, Southwood, Forino and Tutu for instance. He seems able to look beyond injuries and with Connollys’ experience at our level that’s got to be worth a go.

If we are signing Ladapo it'd be a shame if we haven't got it sorted and him registered for tonight's game.

He could use the minutes, at least off the bench. Whoever it is has apparently been training with us, so he should be good to slot in for a cameo.

So, injuries, wages and lifestyle issues.

Now I get it.

Wondering whether they're doing their usual 17:00 Friday - but it's gone a bit quiet on this front, with a free agent (so you'd assume fewer complications?) and an early this week, target?

Ilesy update this morning giving it the "rivals" spiel and quoting Evatt thusly:
We are working hard to make it happen. The issue we have is that other leagues are still trying to sign players too – and not necessarily just in this country. We have a battle and a wrestle on our hands but we are doing as much as we can, within reason, but we are hopeful and we have left a spot clear. Everyone will see that when we publish the list with the EFL, so we want to fill it.
Given we hoped for news "early" this week and Friday afternoon is nobody's idea of early in the week, it does seem our target is dragging his feet somewhat.

Does rather sound like we felt we had an agreement and then his agents has shopped him around and got a bit more elsewhere.

The fact we've left the space open says we still feel we've got a shot at it. Presumably we can register Luke if this freebie says no.

May have seen us play and changed his mind after an agreement was in place.

I'm not sure who the free transfer could be, or if other countries player acquisition is causing problems for us, Turkish sides looking to get Adeboyejo for example.

Weve clearly left the squad a place short in the hopes of plucking Veloso out of retirement.

No weirder than picking up Jerome, I suppose.

If this freebie is a cut above what we have then his arrival might boost our season, but the run of games that'll keep the fans behind Evatt (or have them baying for blood) is unlikely to be hugely influenced by whoever it is.

If a top player rocks up, awesome. I love a signing. Until then we plan for the lads we have on the books.

If Evatt can't win a good wedge of his next few games he might be signing this lad to help the next manager win a play-off final.

Liam Delap of Ipswich. 21 and plays for the English you team. Looks to me like a promising type. No idea if he's available.

He's 100% not available.

They just spent £20m on him and he's starting every game.

Think we had one need for the transfer window I’m not sure we’ve sorted - have we solved the leadership / experience issue? Arfield helps but I think we’re lacking still. We’ve let Iredale go and he was a senior voice. Thomason and Santos are the main voices and I don’t think we’ve added to that. I’d want this free transfer to be experienced.

I wouldn't hold your breath Dibs, it's gone very quiet in regards to the free transfer that was close to being done - sounds like another Dembele, Armstrong, McCowen etc. If the player wanted to come and play for BWFC he would have been signed by now and be getting ready for Huddersfield, which could quite possibly be Evatt's last game if we lose ?

Whoever we sign will take months to get up to speed as they won’t have had a pre season. as an aside I keep wondering what mcatee did when he turned back up at Luton for pre season? Get the deckchair out? Collect the cones?

I'm quite surprised that Evatt appears to have got away (by the BWFC board etc.) with his comments about fitness & fatigue after 4 league games and expecting a slow start due to new signings getting up to speed etc.

He's been given everything he asked for and been well backed by the board, isn't it the managers job / responsibility to plan pre season, plan training, plan his signings etc. so that the team is fresh & ready to go from day one, not a month into the season. Just like Dibs says even if he does bring in this' game changing' free transfer he wont be fit until Oct / Nov so hardly game changing as it will be too late - it really is extremely poor planning & preparation.
