Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I don't like this idea of 'rebuilding'. It's not like we've got a bunch of untalented players in our squad who need shipping out. So far, we've got rid of Petrov, who wasn't even getting games for us, to a good club in La Liga. We've rejected an offer from Fiorentina, who are a big club, for a player many have viewed as one of the worst in our squad. Apart from that, Chungy is constantly being linked to Liverpool, one of the biggest and highest spending teams in England.
It seems that senior people in football, at big clubs in some of the best leagues in the world, are seeing something in our players which our fans aren't. Our fans chastise quality because they don't run around like an enthusiastic kitten chasing a ball of wool. It's nonsense. Ignorant nonsense.
This argument that our players don't have the right mentality is an oversimplistic one. We have the quality we need to get promoted and I hate the idea of getting rid of our genuinely good players in order to bring in people who will run lots and shout, like Paul Robinson.

Wouldn't be a shock. According to our manager (via the official Twitter feed, possibly operated today by Marvin Sordell):Bruce Rioja wrote:Greg Wilde's going to Hibs, according to Bury's Manager.
Freedman: "We've had loan offers for Tom Eaves and Joe Riley, but I don't feel that the time is right for either of them to leave on loan."

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I don't see the point of Tom Eaves staying at the club, we've got David Ngog, Marvin Sordell, Craig Davies, Kevin Davies and Benik Afobe all in the squad so unless one of the strikers will be off it's point him being here...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Wouldn't be a shock. I'd rather see Bruce up front than Afobe .... Shirley to goodness he's noticing how pointless SKavies is these days .... when will Cravies be fit ?? ... N'Gog, if not injured is a 50/50 player & his agent seems keen to mive him on.Tals-biggest-fan wrote:... we've got David Ngog, Marvin Sordell, Craig Davies, Kevin Davies and Benik Afobe all in the squad so unless one of the strikers will be off it's point him being here...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Wouldn't be a shock. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

We must be shipping some more this window if he isnt loaning those two out? Or is it get to 50 points with the tried and tested (and proven shite) and get em in?
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Dougie says he is after players who are not as good as the ones we've got.
cut him some slack - that's quite a tall order!

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
I don't think we should be selling our better players, particularly the regulars.
There are certain players you can buy when you're in the Prem and certain players you can buy when you're in the Championship. If we sell all the ones we bought in the Prem, all we are going to get in is more Championship players. Maybe the cream of this leagu but if we keep that up we'll just be left with a Championship side and a few more quid.
Not worth it. Get back in the Prem, then wheel and deal.
5 million for Lee is a bloody insult anyway. Might be a fair price post-injury but we shouldn't be selling him in that case anyway. He's easily one of the best in the team on form.

Who on Earth would buy a player with screws still in his knee?
Well, maybe could think of one or two actually.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Exactly. Sign too many Championship-style players and the next thing you know, you'll have a team of players suited to the Championship...without the capability of going up. Either you want to improve or you want to accept being a Championship side. If you want to get back into the top tier, you need players who have the quality to get you there and, most importantly, keep you there. If other fans are happy to be a mid table-Championship side with no ambition, that's fine, but I expect more from our club.Jakerbeef wrote:I don't think we should be selling our better players, particularly the regulars.

Players like Chungy, Holden etc., represent both quality and commitment, and that's why they're so valuable to the club. They're irreplaceable. There is no way we could sign a suitable replacement for Chungy.

Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Trying to get my brain around the Dawson thing. If it was a loan with an option to buy, or try-before-you-buy, I'd be more excited. Like tripod says it's just a 3-month loan so not like Cahill. As far as I can make out West Brom don't want to sell, he's just getting experience with us. I hope he does well for us and we keep plenty of clean sheets but it seems odd to me right now... unless we really are dumping a few of the older defenders now and signing replacements in the summer.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
not long left for the window, but I, for one, still have every confidence in Worthy's excellent thread - I'm sure it has much excitement to deliver before the week is out....

The reason for Dawson is cover/competition. We currently have:Armchair Wanderer wrote:Trying to get my brain around the Dawson thing. Knight
Wheater - returning from a long term injury. A way off yet.
Mills - Injured
Ream
At full back we have Mears and Alonso. Add in a returning from injury and seemingly injury prone Riley. We also have Ricketts to cover across the back 4.
Bearing in mind we only have 2 fit centre backs, plus 2 that many believe to be 50 shades of shit. Alonso could be heading off soon, Ricketts has hardly been great this season. I'd say that is a very good reason to get some cover in until we know where we are in the summer.
Re: Worthy's better class of transfer thread
Dawson is a good signing, he will do well here.
I have also heard that he picked us as if we pickup he would like to stay.
