Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
He'd have been better off not weakening the squad to sign a free agent that never materialised. Having already complained that a 22 man squad wasn't big enough. We've now got a 21 man squad.boltonboris wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 10:32 amHe'd have been better just not saying anything. Keep it a secret. Now missing out on ambitious signings to teams who can out-spend us is "a monumental cock up and a half"

He's been plagued by injuries hasn't he? So yeah, that sounds about right!
Played 79 games in 4 years, which doesn't seem that bad, but he's missed at least 81 games in the same period

Had thought about Cooper earlier this summer - he has the leadership qualities we lack and at centre half as well, so think he would have been a great help for Rico. Injury prone though aye, but certainly makes sense given we let a centre half go in Iredale. Has he gone to Europe then?

Not sure an ageing crock centre-back is what we need but we'll never know now

^^ Wouldn't make any sense whatsoever, to me...if we're three up top and need to rest at least 2 of 'em after 70, we have 4 and glass-back.

Would Cooper count as 'ambitious'?

It would've been if Parky signed him for Wrexham

I think so in some ways - hasn't played this far down for a decade, Premier 2020-23, presumably hefty wage - when people talk about 'ambition' they often mean 'expense'.

It's not quite the signing I was hoping for and I;m not 100% sure it's the one Evatt was teasing but hey-ho.

Yeah I am just querying whether he fits the profile being teased as the window closed? Iles was talking about forwards.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 1:04 pmI think so in some ways - hasn't played this far down for a decade, Premier 2020-23, presumably hefty wage - when people talk about 'ambition' they often mean 'expense'.![]()

Just a thought. Might be easier to whisper "it was Cooper" rather than "It was that forward, Saturdays opposition signed"
Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
I don’t think we’d have had any shot at Cooper, and I’d be surprised if we’d even attempted.
Edit: I think this because he was on £25k per week at Leeds.

Well the idiots in the BN news section are stating it was Cooper but who knows?
Still, plenty of other free agents out there

Yeah agree with most of the above. Do think he fits that ‘leader’ profile we lacked which makes me think twice about him as a link. If I was Markham and a club captain from the league above became available I’d certainly have a look.

Re: Tooling up: The summer 2024 transfer thread
Could it have been Daniel Johnson who went to Turkey after ripping up his contract with Stoke? Not exactly a game changer but a competent midfielder who perhaps was Morley's replacement. Just another cock-up if you ask me. Now we will have get a free agent who will need 3 months to get up to speed. Might as well give Matheson the spot with Tutus injury and wait for the market in January.

This is a fair point - although Gethin's imminent return may mitigate the need. (We might prefer to see Matheson than Jones at RWB, but will the manager?)irie Cee Bee wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 2:37 pmMight as well give Matheson the spot with Tutus injury and wait for the market in January.

By all means register Matheson.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 2:40 pmThis is a fair point - although Gethin's imminent return may mitigate the need. Unless we're talking to someone exceptional in the freebies market we should be hanging on until January now and going again.

Point of order. Going again, suggests we're already going...

Heh! Well at least we're going better than at the same stage of Evatt's first season, which turned out alreet.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 11:32 amPoint of order. Going again, suggests we're already going...
