Remember that at this point last season, Reading had one more point than we do.bobo the clown wrote:precisely.Lord Kangana wrote:Anyway, we're drinking in the last chance saloon now, so theres no real point in evaluating. We've got to get up, whether thats cos Dougie is ace, Sammy is a great coach or we all shout a bit louder. We just need to get up. Worst case scenario at the latest next season. Otherwise, we're f*cked.
Coyle really did a job on us. It may already be too late to look for top 2 this season.

Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
But Reading weren't managed by Coyle. Reading did not then appoint another manager who did not know the squad. Nor, then, did Reading go on to play all top three clubs in the league when they were at their most vulnerable and in need of all the confidence building they could get.Jez wrote:Remember that at this point last season, Reading had one more point than we do.bobo the clown wrote:precisely.Lord Kangana wrote:Anyway, we're drinking in the last chance saloon now, so theres no real point in evaluating. But, hey, I think it's a genetic thing: your parents are probably bubbly outgoing types who look on the bright side of life; mine are mean, miserable, irascible, doom-mongering types who think a glass is always half empty never half full.

Has he signed yet?
Or has he been spotted heading north east through Billericay?

Make my day, somebody (please) start a rumour that the Top Pluckers at Chicken HQ have approached Freedman trying to outbid Ipswich.

No smoke without fire. Who is this Mark Curtis fella? He appears to be linked to DF now.
BTW - I am at stage 5 now.

I do wish you luck for the rest of the season, i think with the team you got get the right manager in you could get in the play offs
Do ya think Dougie will get a dog's life when we play you at your place ?
Who are you lot linked with? who would you like to see at Palace?
Whoever he is managing

and,
A manager who is young, hungry and does not bullsh*t me. Oh. he needs to play decent football too.
Re: Dougie Freedman - New Manager
IMO Freedman is a done deal.
I can only think the hold-up is to do with Lawrence and Fleming. If I were Palace I would be reluctant to let this pair go without getting a replacement in first. Lawrence especially has managed before so is experienced enough to deal with their situation. I don't know what experience they have in their other backroom staff who could take over their first team affairs. We are fortunate in that respect having Sammy Lee.
If that is the case then Freedman may be reluctant to take training without his own people in to help him. Bolton are in capable hands with Lee and Phillips so it makes sense to leave to it until the new manager is better prepared.
Pure speculation but a possible scenario.

I heard Freedman didn't have an agent and represented himself.Eagle in peace wrote:That's nonsense. Get a grip.CrazyHorse wrote:Eagle in peace wrote:It looks like your chairman tapped him up.

I'd be very very very careful, mentioning Curtis without knowing the facts. And nobody does.
It was as far as I can tell a bullshit rumour, started by some shit stirring Bolton fan on twitter with an agenda against Gartside.
I'm sure there was an interview a while back with Freedman saying he didn't like agents as they gave players bad advice and didn't use one himself.
Could be wrong, who knows. But probably best not to try and claim a fact that can't be verified.
Curtis is working for West Ham now anyway, with his mate and client, Sam Allardyce. Doubt he'd have any further involvement here.
I think Palace fans on the whole have been good about this. I do think that they will at some point wake up and realise how their club is being run.
Why were your owners so desperate to push your manager out the door? Announcing stuff before its done. They now say they were "stunned" that Freedman wanted to talk to us. Stunned that a manager would have at least a desire to talk to a bigger club, with better facilities, a bigger budget and better first team squad? Dissapointed maybe, but "stunned"? They will be stunned quite a few more times in football I'm sure.

All I said was "Who is this Mark Curtis fella?" and a link has been made to the two. Intriguing response from you.BWFC_Insane wrote:I heard Freedman didn't have an agent and represented himself.Eagle in peace wrote:That's nonsense. In answer to your other points, I am not aware of specifics, but our owners were not desperate to be rid of him. See previous mention of DF's poor results in comparison to the majority of our managers over the past 20-30 years to see we were clearly not desperate to get rid of him. They did in fact back him in the close season, in part by offloading deadwood.
Sorry to repeat, but DF resigned, stating he was leaving for the Bolton job. They reported this, nothing more. They were "stunned" as every other Palace fan was, given his 3+ interviews stating clearly and categorically, this scenario was not going to happen. We may all be naive, but it's nice to trust people's integrity sometimes....
As for bigger, this as you know is not always better. Yes, he is reportedly offered bigger wages, yes he is going to a club with bigger debt, but better first team squad? Maybe, but facts prove you are currently wrong, and I am confident that will be proven at the end of this season. DF better have some budget to spend, as you will not best us with what you currently have.
PS - Better facilities yes (although my son's team has better facilities than us), and pies!

As for beer, nah, we have excellent beer now specifically brewed for us (along with Carling dross admittedly).
