Best he doesn't come here then.....SmokinFrazier wrote:I'd be happy with Nigel Adkins and I think he'd suit working with a talented young squad next year.

Metaphorically "The Big Fish" according to the usual red tops. You know the usual shit, build 'em up knock 'em down, laugh out loud and profit from good copy.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:A job, if they don't go up. But seriously, it's a good question. You said yesterday we were the big fish, but I wouldn't be surprised if our attendances aren't in the top six.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

There may well be a few options at the seasons end. Would be nice if Wolves sacked Kenny Jackett. If Rotherham are daft enough to twiddle their thumbs perhaps a 2 year contract for Warnock. Paul Clement seemed to be building something at Derby who sacked him with unseemly haste imo, but the same 3 questions popped up that do with most potentials - Can we afford him? Would he come? Does he know the lower divisions well enough?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:A job, if they don't go up. Councillor Morris? Well, he has Bolton's best interest at heart...doesn't he? (not related, I hasten to add...)Devon White wrote:Gary Neville ? Nigel Pearson ?SmokinFrazier wrote:I'd be happy with Nigel Adkins and I think he'd suit working with a talented young squad next year.

It is funny that, knowing what we do now, Neil Warnock of all people was the man we needed this season. The job he did at Palace first time round - steer them towards the playoffs using little else but kids and Neil Danns while things went to rat-shit off the field - was exactly what we needed here.
Just looking through, he's had a remarkable amount of success really, even in recent years. He's the only man really to forge a decent side out of the wads cash QPR have pissed down the drain and now he looks as though he might rescue Rotherham.
He'd be on my list of people to speak to. I happen to also think he'd choose us over Rotherham, even if they're in the league above.

Not sure, given our current financial situation that many would choose us over anybody at our level right now Tom. Any manager approached would be aware of how 'we've had all snakes and no ladders lately.Tombwfc wrote:It is funny that, knowing what we do now, Neil Warnock of all people was the man we needed this season. Gary Neville. Aye. Let's appoint a complete novice.Devon White wrote:Gary Neville ? Nigel Pearson ?SmokinFrazier wrote:I'd be happy with Nigel Adkins and I think he'd suit working with a talented young squad next year.
Pearson isn't coming to a league one club with no money.

Warnock will get a good job, so that rules him out..
We need his 'type' though.. Let's hope Ipswich sink like a stone and Mick Mac comes available
It's ironic really, that the sort of managers we were linked with a few years ago, we mostly baulked at by the fans, who wanted a shiny novice with no sackings to his name and the 'next big thing' (I'm part of that too, I hasten to add) yet on reflection, we really did require a more pragmatic approach

I don't like Adkins and his bullshit management speak. Also if he becomes available it's because he's just failed in the league we are heading for.
I also dislike his permanently raised eyebrows, although I admit it's not a deal breaker.

I still think a Warnock/McCarthy type is a year too late.
We're in different waters now, not needing a ship steadying, but a rebuild with youth and very little money to play with.
Both Warnock and McCarthy tend to build around solid experienced players, the likes of which we don't have nor can really afford.
This season and last we were crying out for their experience though. Another missed opportunity.
But now I think we need to really find someone who will earn the trust of the board and fans long term. We simply cannot afford someone who is out within 6-12 months. Whoever we get has to be someone that Deano is prepared to stick with longer term even if immediate results are not good.

Indeed. If they're permanently raised then how else would you gauge his pleasure-level when you give him one in Fanny's bogs?LeverEnd wrote: I also dislike his permanently raised eyebrows, although I admit it's not a deal breaker.

Paul Tisdale has spent almost a decade being both manager and accountant keeping Exeter going. He'd tidy the place up a bit too.

In fairness, having someone who could do sums, looks like it might be an improvement...Prufrock wrote:
