Really? with the way we defend??
Last season we finished 14th, with the 10th best defence; remove the Reading outlier (I know, I know) and it was the 8th best defence.

Meanwhile we only had the 14th best attack, and 20 of our 59 goals came from three players who are, despite our best intentions, no longer at the club: Juke (7), Mason (6) and Moritz (7).

So yeah, we need to beef up the attack.

Meanwhile, as an aside .... no-where else to put it really ... Matty Taylor joined Burnley today. My they are settling for a mediocre squad. Hope for the best & if it fails luxuriate with the parachute payments having become ultra-solvent do you think ??

None of that falls into BWFCi's top 6 though does it? It wasn't the odd battering we took it was the goals that gave away points that did for us in the end.
I don't disagree we need some strikers, but to be fair it just don't seem like we can afford any that really would make that big a difference.
For me we need our pampered youth strikers to step up for a scorcher of a season, alas that looks like pie in the sky.

Not so much pampered as not trusted/believed in I'd say.

I'd love him to give them a go. On the bench at least.

Both Iliev and Clough get goals aplenty in the stiffs and seem to get decent write ups. It's put-up or shut-up time for them this season. He's either willing to give them a look or may as well let them go.

What if they aren't ready? I ask as a genuine question. There is a between point in get rid and throw them in. Which is, continue their development......

I don't want them out, I want them to be given a chance. They will be 20 during the coming season. They should at least be worth a place on the bench if needs be.

Eaves & Odelusi are still on the books and again should have shown enough that a decision be made.

Hall is reckoned to be better in the middle than on the wing ... I have no idea if it's so but it's an option.

None of these may be World Class but the lack of even trying them out is very frustrating. The management see them every day, they are professional coaches, I assume they have a good idea of their ability ... or lack of. But give them a go.

Eaves isn't up to it. Odelusi plays wide.

Hall is definitely never ever a striker. Number ten maybe, but then that isn't our problem position.

Our issue is we need someone up top to lead the line and make it stick. I've seen enough of Clough to know that isn't him. It certainly isn't Davies or Beckford.

And I haven't seen Iliev so I've no idea.

I'm sure they will either get some experience out on loan or get some time on our bench or even the odd start.

But they won't take us to the top 6, if any were that good we'd know by now. I'm all for using the younger ones as squad players, we have to.

But if we don't recruit a top quality (relatively) striker we will be also rans at best again and I think everyone knows that.

Odelusi has done very well in the senior side when given a chance. At the very least I'd like to see him as an option on the bench this season.

Why? There is a difference between them being as good as an experienced striker such as Jutkiewicz and being ready for the scrap heap.

They might need more experience first via a loan or further development. Or they might be solid squad players without being ones to rely on to fire you to glory.

Eaves is a real shame imo. We signed him as a young striker with experience of 3rd tier football, who'd just torn apart a premiership defence. He looked good during his first loan spell but since then he seems to have gone backwards. :|

Sordell and Andrews set to move on in what sounds like the next week or so, from the BN.

That's either a slightly slower increasing of the debt, or a slightly bigger budget... woot!
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
