Rumours from Rovers fans on FB that Coyle has got their job. I do hope so!

You think he's going to get everyone pulling in the right direction? They'll need to close some of the lower tiers if they bring him back.CrazyHorse wrote:Not pissed. Been thinking it for a while but didn't want to suggest it.

Yup. It'd end up being horrific again under him no doubt. But we need someone who knows what the fook they're doing.
Besides, looking at that list of names on the other thread that are being genuinely discussed, frankly anyone who thinks I'm mad for suggesting Megson wants their bumps feeling.

Re: Which muppet can we appoint next?
Gary Megson - 98 matches 27.55% win %
Owen Coyle - 126 matches 33.33% win %
Dougie Freedman - 100 matches 34% win %
Neil Lennon - 79 matches 22.78% win %
I know win percentage isn't everything, but the above Bolton career win percentages, in conjunction with his relationship with fans and not having worked for 4 years, tell me Megson isn't the answer. Throw in the fact we're division 3 without a pot to piss in and a squad devoid of any sort of winning mentality, then mix that with owners that seem to be pulling in different directions and one of them I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw him; I think adding Megson to the mix would be a disaster.

Re: Which muppet can we appoint next?
Yeah but megson's 27% was in the prem and was relatively consistent through his time here.
Both coyle and freedman spent a good while in the championship and started really well before huge barren streaks eventually led to their dismissal. Would be interesting what each of their win percentages excluding their first 12 months were.

Re: Which muppet can we appoint next?
A few months prior we were a top 8 Premiership side, with a Premiership size budget and squad/facilities etc. He didn't get the most out of what he had, which is exactly what we need now.
Re: Which muppet can we appoint next?
Coyle only spent a couple of months in the Championship - got sacked in October. The majority of his time was in the Premiership too. Not that I'd want him back mind.jimbo wrote:Yeah but megson's 27% was in the prem and was relatively consistent through his time here.

Re: Which muppet can we appoint next?
I think you need to look at win% in the context of draw % and loss % too
Megson 46%
Coyle 48%
Freedman 34%
Lennon 44%
Bottom line is how many ppg you're accumulating.![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Lennon - 1.01
Freedman - 1.34
Coyle - 1.19
Megson - 1.09
Allardyce - 1.52 (For reference)...
At those rates, all but Lennon would generally keep us in the Prem - and Lennon's would be borderline, but, it rather belies that some good seasons might outweigh one bad one, and one bad one takes you down.

Sorry DSB but agent, a football person??Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Yeah but Rioch was a product of a different age, when alcohol was encouraged and he sent Jason McAteer over the road for the lunchtime pies. Leave that to the bloody manager. I can't imagine Rioch working like that.
Loved Bruce to bits, still do, and I'd love us to hire another of his type (stern but protectively patriarchal, wants attacking football) but things have moved on a bit. Remember that if the situation were the same he'd have been trusting the Warbies, whereas we have football men (ex-player, ex-agent) so it's not a like-for-like comparison. Recruitment in those days was phoning fellow managers asking who was available (for them and elsewhere), then sending some old guy in a flat cap to watch people in the reserves. Now there are videos of literally thousands of players worldwide - and I don't mean YouTube clipreels, I mean 90-minute footage following them round and available via interfaces that let you examine his tackling/heading/clearances or whatever your criteria. I've seen the Wyscout system (others are available) and it's terrifyingly in-depth; it's not possible for one man to do it alone, especially when he's also supposed to be taking training, picking the team etc etc. It's fine by me if Deano wants to get involved in player suggestion; what would be more worrying is if the manager isn't allowed a say at all, but has there been any indication at all that that would be the truth?

Talk about ignoring recent failures: three jobs in a row he's buggered up. I bear him no ill will, but it'd be funny if he makes it four. #clapclapofficer_dibble wrote:Well its not coyle!
Meanwhile Lennon might be slipping into Stubbs's still-warm seat, so to speak. Maybe he said "I have experience of taking a team out of the second tier."

Aha that's the best news I've heard in ages! Nice one, Owen.
