That said, were I a pro-footballer I'd definitely finish my career in the States. It'd be amazing.

According to reports, if Bolton Wanderers are to land Celtic Beram Kayal he must demand the move.

The People claims the 23-year-old Israeli midfielder is wanted by Wanderers boss Own Coyle.

Kayal is wanting more money from the Scottish giants and is eyeing a lucrative deal in the Premier League.

However, it appears the Parkhead club are playing hardball, holding the midfielder to his current contract and refusing to improve the terms.

Consequently, if Kayal wants a move he will have to put in a formal transfer request.

I think if we are actrully after Kayal we should off him want he wants... He is a top quality footballer and him and Holden in midfield together would be insane! I read that he's only on something like £7000 a month and wants around £20000, He would be totally worth the money!

Rodrigo at £4mil just seems a ridiculous way to use a limited budget. Alonso is an extreme example, but he does show the risks of bringing in players 'for the future', especially when there are fairly sizeable holes in a current squad (which had enough problems to begin with).

Beyond that, didn't Benfica pay £5mil for him last year?
Then what is the criteria for improving the team? I disagree with the statement about Klasnic because he's an impact sub at best but he scores goals, so no not any player that plays 90 mins would be an improvement. Davies does more than just score more than 5/6 a season, you only have to look at Opta stats for that.

Rodrigo would improve the team no end and if you compare it to the £8m that Birmingham want for Cameron Jerome then I would gladly take Rodrigo
Pfffft.

Sounds like Celtic are trying to sheist Kayal out of any commission he would receive on any transfer fee. I understand that such a commission becomes forfeit whenever a player submits a transfer request.

So basically he can be stuck on his current crap wages or lose out on any chunk of change he would have gotten through the transfer fee. Is it normal for clubs to behave this way?

Rodrigo for 4mil doesn't sound a bad deal. Keep in mind he never actually got to play in his natural position, or even on the left wing. Then when Sturridge came on loan and Lee returned from the Asian Cup he never really got any playing time. Given a whole season of consistent minutes, I think Rodrigo would bag more than a couple of goals; maybe not double figures but then again Elmo didn't get that far past that mark this season either. And he cost 8-mil a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

So we can easily replace Elmander with someone who can score 7/8. Piece of piss.

Tom is right, Cameron would 'improve our forward line' and folk are rightly aghast at that idea. It isn't saying much. Gonna have to aim a bit higher. £4m on an unproven, lightweight, up to now almost entirely end product-less kid is utter, utter madness. If we had 40million to spend maybe, but chhhhrrrrist.

Let me get this straight, we are planning to spend 4m on a player to replace 2 we lost last year. The player in question could not oust either of the ones he is 'replacing' out of the side last year. That's a sign of progress if ever I saw one.....oh hang on........

Celtic are trying to scare him out of going, if he goes public and says I want to leave then the Celtic fans will let him know what they think!

He's just joined up with Pini Zahvi to try and sort out his new deal, so if all else fails we can always win via BUNG.

We're also linked with Brown again, I'm probably one of the few who wouldn't mind him here. Experienced at highest level, can play both right back (problem area) and centre back (back-up at least needed), he's nowt amazing but if he's realistic about his wages I think he'd be a pretty solid addition to our team. There's always been this; 'oh, if he wasn't surrounded by United players he'd be exposed as a shit defender' but by the same token, you don't collect several titles and over 350 appearences for Manchester United if you can't cut the mustard.

Surely the criteria for improving the team is improving on it as it was last season, as opposed to how it is at this current moment in time? Or at least replacing those who've left.

From the side which finished one place above the survival Sunday lot last season, we've lost Sturridge, Elmander, a few squad players, probably Cahill and Holden is still injured. As it stands currently, we'd get relegated. Lots of players would improve us.

Even then though, I'm not sure where the faith comes from that Rodrigo would be much of an immediate improvement. In over double the number of appearances last season he managed the same amount of goals as Robbie Blake.

Regardless of all that though, this transfer depends on Benfica buying a player for £5mil, immediately loaning him out, then selling him for a million pounds less. Why?

You haven't really thought this through, have you

What is in it for Celtic taking that course of action?

ALL Celtic are doing is expecting a bloke to honour his contract until such times as BOTH parties want to terminate it

Celtic will terminate it IF he foregoes his share of any transfer fee and a club compensates them at the level they think is fair

Seems as it should be, to me

Maybe you think he should sign a lucrative contract, then, as soon as things are going well, he gets to re-negotiate...this would be fine if he'd agreed to walk away from said lucrative salary if he'd been found to be too shite to play pub league

If you mean why would they sell, perhaps they've simply changed their mind and are recouping a fair old slice of their fee. It's nothing new to quite a few clubs.

Meantime, this morning's rumour-rounds have Chelsea missing out on Neymar, which is irksome Sturridge-wise.

There's also a Mirror report that Liverpool are looking to get 13 players off the roll: Milan Jovanovic, Joe Cole, Maxi Rodriguez, Alberto Aquilani, Philipp Degen, Nabil El Zhar, Emilano Insua, Paul Konchesky, Brad Jones, Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio, David Ngog and Christian Poulsen. I can't see any of them coming to us, principally because Liverpool are trying to cut wages so it's unlikely we could cut a deal where the parent club pays most of the readies, but it's an interesting confirmation that sometimes clubs cut losses. Warning: Do not click on the link if you're squeamish about £5m salaries being given to folk you couldn't pick out in a police line-up.
