Cahill plays for a small club who no one pays much attention to, he can make mistakes all day long and no one ever talks about it. Tell me how you ever seen any football show analyse Boltons defending? They had shocking defence last season, they conceded 5 against Stoke in Wembley where he looked like a clown. Even the weekend i watched him carefully and he was all over the place. this is another Joe Cole English media big up and make him sound like he's better than he really is. If he comes to Arsenal, you gonna see he's not better than kos
Yet only one against Arsenal at the Reebok.

Funny that
I remember that game very clear....the amount of time we went through your defence was joke. Could have had 6-7 that game....once again your boy was all over the place

I'm not saying he's absolutely fantastic and will be the solution to all our problems, but he is genuinely better then most of what we have (admittedly not hard I know) I agree he's not worth £16/£17 mil but £6 is taking the piss a bit. Somewhere in the middle of those 2 figures would seem reasonable and I very much doubt wenger would buy him and plonk him on the bench. If he does get him I reckon he will be straight into the first team.

This is great news. If he's shite, no one will want him, and we'll be delighted to keep him here.

Not sure why you're hanging round like a bad smell, given that you and (allegedly Arsenal) have no interest whatsoever, and you've just sold half your best players.

Just feck off back to whatever rock you crawled out from under.

This is the last thing we need Arsenal fans talking about spending money, next you will be telling me Fabregas and Nasri leaving was a good thing, and that Wednesdays game wasn't critical.

Thats probable why Wenger was sweating like jacko on a school trip.

If they come back with a decent offer then caio to cahill, other wise they can stick there cheque book up there arse, and carry on build the second string french national team that wenger wants.

Reckon they still pay with cheques?

Firstly as an Arsenal supporter can I just say that Abs doesn't speak for all of us (or in fact any of us).

If the story about the £6 mill bid is true (and it's from the Mirror so I'm taking it with a big pinch of salt) it does apparently include add-ons. As it doesn't mention what those add-ons are it's a bit pointless to suggest it's a crap bid or a brilliant bid.

Personally I hope there is some substance of truth in it and the actual offer was something like £6 mill up front with £4m in add-ons (depending on performances etc.etc.). That doesn't mean I'd accept it if I was Gartside but it does at least mean we're talking to you guys and our next bid might be more acceptable. Say 12 mill for example.

As for those of you saying you'd rather he goes for free in the summer that's risky. I know the majority of your debt is owed to your owner but it's not interest free and he's also taken a few million from the club in fees. Obviously that's totally within his rights but it does mean that the debt is probably going to continue to increase and while he's a rich guy who seems commited to the club he's not 'Sheik' rich. So taking £12 mill for Cahill now would be better than losing him in 10 months for nothing esp. if you can find a reasonable replacement for half that.

Whatever happens I wish your lot well this season. I've enjoyed my visits to the Reebok and I think Coyle is a top manager.

Still what do I know I'm just a dumb gooner. :)

Well quite.

Your point is well made. We don't know what the add-ons are and, as such, can only comment on what is known i.e £6m

Wenger's position is indefensible. He has just taken £60m in transfer fees for Fabregas and Nasri plus £7m for Clichy and £25m for reaching the group stage of the champions league.

He has massively underrated Cahill's value and BWFC's resolve to get a fair (market) price for one of our best players.

And welcome aboard.

Which ever way you look at it with add ons/without add ons the offer is derisory. We paid £5m for him nearly four years ago and to suggest that he's only developed to a fee of £1m is silly. Full England international, potentially still 5/6 years at top, top level, a goal threat as well as a great defender.

So yeah, I'm glad Gartside said no.

I suspect there's a bit of bargaining going on. If Wenger and Gazidis went in with an offer of £12 mill immediately then maybe Bolton would hold out for 14-15. If they start low they'll shave a few mill off the final price maybe.

As for a fair market value. That's tricky. If it was based purely on his ability / age / commitment etc. then it would be easy but it's not. Fabregas and Nasri showed that. Fabregas is probably worth something more like £50 mill but when there is only one club offering to buy him and he is desperate to move to that club (to an extent he coughed up a few mill himself) then we were never going to get his true worth from the deal. Conversely with Nasri we probably got £5-10mill more than he was worth purely because we were dealing with a club that has it's own printing press for £50 notes.

So Cahill's value is affected by him being in the last year of his contract and by the fact that now Liverpool have Coates (and it looks like they were never interested in Cahill anyway) there is only club after him. Us. So it comes down to whether Bolton will take what they can get or whether they'd rather let him go for free next summer.

How about this as a question to Bolton fans.

Imagine this. You currently don't have Gary Cahill at the club but your debt is £12 mill less. Cahill is available to Bolton but only for 1 season for £12 mill + wages. Would you sign him ?

This is for all the Arsenal lurkers on here. Aren't you lot starting to get pissed off with Wenger's antics? He's had the whole transfer window to recruit a centre half and plenty of money to do it and yet here he is again, pissing about with derisory offers at the eleventh hour. It's the sort of 'strategy' usually employed by teams at the bottom of the Prem, who are nervous about spending too much in case they get relegated. It just makes your club look small time.

No, but then we have never spend 12m on a player and never will. Plus, with bids of 6m its in our interest to reject it. We could get something similar in January, and have a top, top, top player for half a season.

Exactly! Come back on 31st January and Owen might, might just be a little tempted...just a little!

You make a great point about market value, it depends on the player. I would ask as a Bolton fan, do you think think that Chamberlain is worth £12m spent? (never played in the Prem, never played outside of league 1)

Coyle has come out and said that he thinks that Gary could play for a top club. He realises that he can't keep Cahill forever but I certainly think he's worth more than £6m last year of his contract or not.

If he doesn't go then we get to keep a top player and lose him potentially for free at the end of the season. But I would suggest that Arsenal's need for silverware is greater than our need to make money from one particular player.

If money was no object, we were a team meant to be challenging for honours and we had central defenders on our books of the calibre of Djourou, Squillaci and Kosceilny and with the injury record of Vermaelan. Then yes, I would...

I don't believe they have a machine chugging out such small denominations outside of the "Loose Change" Department.

I think £12m would probablly cover it.

Has it got through to the Arsenal er, "visitors" yet that we don't have a clue what happens in the Bolton boardroom? Just seems a bit odd that you can tell us what's going to happen when none of us know. If I were in there and saw that derisory 6m offer, I'd ban all future negotiations with Arsenal on the grounds their manager has totally lost the plot. If we accepted 6m every Bolton fan would think it was our lot who'd done the same. Wonder how Gary Cahill feels right now when he hears one of those "top" clubs reckon he's only worth a third of his own club's valuation? Bet he can't wait to sit on that bench. We could lose his fee by league position so let's give him away hey?

Get realistic, a sensible bid might get you some result; an insulting one sure won't. If GC goes we have to find a replacement. Seen the price of semi-decent centre backs right now? Thought you'd have got the message. Obviously not. Meanwhile, Liverpool are much more a topic right now than Arsenal. Have a nice weekend.
