Pah. Why on earth would we want to improve one of West Brom's Centre Halfs, eh Dougie?
More education for we mere supporters?

I don't believe Dougie ever said he had a policy of not bringing loans in - in fact he has often said that the *right* loanee can bring an instant impact, hasn't he? Dawson seemed to improve our performance last time - so seems eminently sensible to me...

And I believe he was naive enough to say that he didn't want to bring players in on loan as essentially we'd just be improving a player for another club.thebish wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Pah. Why on earth would we want to improve one of West Brom's Centre Halfs, eh Dougie?

Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
I thought he said he'd rather improve our own young players than those of another team but given that he obviously feels our young players aren't up to the task, a loan would make sense
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
none of which is really at odds with wanting to bring in Dawson. it may not be his first choice of action if he had other options - but i don't believe he has ever said anything that indicates he wouldn't bring in loanees if he thought they would be a benefit to the club beyond other viable options that he has available to him.Bruce Rioja wrote:And I believe he was naive enough to say that he didn't want to bring players in on loan as essentially we'd just be improving a player for another club.thebish wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:Pah. (and in Dawson's case - I wouldn't be at all surprised if there is at least a chance of a long-term deal developing - in which case we wouldn't simply be improving a player for another club...)
if he gets Dawson back, I'd say "well done Dougie".
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
indeed - and in saying that - he'd probably be in tune with every other football club manager - it's common sense. but if there is a hole to be filled and our own youngsters are not yet developed or ready enough to be thrown into it - then - bring in a loanee... makes total sense from where I'm standing (sitting)...Wrighty92 wrote:I thought he said he'd rather improve our own young players than those of another team but given that he obviously feels our young players aren't up to the task, a loan would make sense

I don't mind us loaning, if we think we've got half a chance of signing them. Assuming they're not as bad as Afobe and Miyachi were...loaning Wilshere and Sturridge made no sense to me at all.

I will : -
a. Believe it when I see it
b. Be absolutely delighted
c. Be fearful that he won't live up to last year's heights
d. Will promptly get injured
However Bish, whatever is the case in practica terms he has DEFINATELY said previously that he's not a fan of the loan system and feels it develops players for other clubs and blocks the progress of our own.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

If he comes, I will be delighted and regard it as a sensational signing. He played well for us last season and will be a boost to fans and players.
Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
If he plays well again and we clear the decks I can see him wanting to stay. Nothing wrong with the loan market but when it's repeatedly used in desperation because you can't motivate your own (including those you signed) it's a concern. He's absolutely right to be using it now. The board should be looking to sanction short term deals to enable us to limp to the end of the season without dropping any further in the league.

Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
indeed - you CAN not be a fan of the loan system for those very reasons - but it doesn't mean that there are not times when you will use it because it is the obvious thing to do.. as in the case of possibly loaning Dawson!!bobo the clown wrote:I will : -

Dougie loaning Dawson would not mean that he has broken some sacred promise that he once made... it need not make us roll our eyes...

I must have missed the reason for you rolling your eyes and breaking out the sarcasm then! I think we should be happy if we loan Dawson - as Jaffka says, it'd be good news...

Re: PLYMOUTH'S stupendously all singing dancing transfer thr
This development issue interests me.
By definition it's a process. I can't see that having the stated aim of developing our own youth, is in any way at odds with loaning players from other clubs. Freedman has been active in recruiting bodies for the academy, of course, none of which come with any guarantee. In this area it appears to me his actions support his claims.
Short term there is the issue of the current season. In that context, best I can see, loaning players from other clubs has helped our cause, not hindered.
From memory, being that DSb appears remiss in his efforts to compile a library of Freedman quotes, I don't recall Freedman saying he wouldn't loan players, only that from choice he would prefer not to.

indeed - but let's all roll our eyes whenever he talks about loaning someone - cos it's fun!!!Enoch wrote:This development issue interests me.

(however - DSB never offered to compile such a library - it was my idea - and i offered to do it for a NEW manager - too many dougie quotes have floated under the bridge for it to be a manageable task now!!)
