We had our fingers burned with Mandy, and we'd not be able to flog Crouch on for a third of what he'd cost two years down the line.
On that basis, ah'm oot
beat me to it

One look at his career stats would show most people that Mandy was a high-risk, anyway. He hadn't scored too many beforehand if memory serves.ohjimmyjimmy wrote:The point being that we dont always have to 'sell on' - and if someone costs us 6m say (2m more than folk are happy we'd pay for rodrigo) and he scores goals to keep us in the prem, what would he owe us?Lofthouse Lower wrote:He was a free transfer....and £45,000 over a three year deal, not £10m (ish) up front, higher wages and a similar length of contract.
Just saying like..we got a bit burnt with elmander because we didnt know he was going to flop like he did and we basically lost a fortune without much in return.

So why did we think we'd ever get that money back?
Sometimes it pays to invest in those with a greater chance success & of short term benefit , i.e. by which by the time the contract expires everyone shakes hands and no-one's effectively out of pocket IF he's done his job.

I wouldn't be unhappy having Nugent as a back-up.
Just so long as we don't end up with Cameron Je-f ucking-rome
Roberts - two years ago, maybe.

They did make it a tad bit obvious a week or so back saying they was flying one in from Jamaica who was coming to the end of his career but still has a year or 2 left
