Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Good mate of mine down here is a Blackpool fan (!) (Lytham St Annes exile) and season ticket holder at Bloomfield Road. He reckons Baptiste can play anywhere in the back four and do a good job. He says the downside is his lack of pace. In his view he is perfectly competent in the Championship but would get stuffed in the PL.
We shall see.

No bobo!
I have come to the conclusion that senior players like Davies, Ricketts and Knight escaped criticism because of the tit who was in charge...and I'm making up for lost time! Dougie has not been shy in shipping our losers out, hopefully to be replaced with some winners.

I wouldnt be unhappy with a back four of Mears/Baptiste/Wheater/TierneyZulus Thousand of em wrote:Good mate of mine down here is a Blackpool fan (!) If what your mate says is true its a slow centre half pairing (but then so is any without Ream. And he isnt playing).

DF plans to use him primarily as a Right Back though I understood.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

correct!bobo the clown wrote:DF plans to use him primarily as a Right Back though I understood.
Bolton boss Dougie Freedman has confirmed that Alex Baptiste will be signed as a right-back and not a utility player.
The 27-year-old defender, whose move from Blackpool has not yet been officially ratified, played in three different positions last season but Freedman says there is no doubt in his mind that Baptiste is a right-back.
"Once everything is sorted, I am signing him as a right-back, 100 per cent," he told The Bolton News.
"He can play in other positions but I feel that is the position where he would be of best value to the team.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
As I was surfing the net this morning I found this article which looks at our squad as it stands.
http://www.lionofviennasuite.com/2013/7 ... -transfers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?
I think the left side of the team will have to be significantly strengthened before August. Why is it season after season we struggle to get decent left sided players??

There are less of them on the market?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Could we not simply alter the pitch some 90 degrees?

Nixon says Nugent has injured himself in training and could be the reason for the delay on Beckford.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Anyone see Ricketts comments as a possible dig at Dougie?
Something along the lines of "I've signed for Jackett cos he's a nice guy and there aren't many nice managers in football"
Since our previous manager was 'the nicest guy in football', I wondered if there had been a wee fall out?

Don't forget, as soon as Dougie came in, Sam was the first to tell us all how much better he was than the wanker before him...
Think he just pays lip service to whoever is his gaffer. Naturally.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I think it's a bit of a stretch to see that as a dig against anyone other than football managers in general.
I liked Ricketts as a player and he seemed a very decent and down to earth guy.
Prior to last season he was a proper solid defender you could put anywhere across the back four and he'd do a decent enough job for you.
However, last season he was exposed too often and I think the right decision was taken all round.
Good luck to him as far as I'm concerned.
