They should have buried that first header.

Clubs don't insure players like that anymore. Costs are astronomical for obvious reasons.

Aye, looked harder to miss behind the goal. Drifted in between Moxey and Beevers with acres to spare. For HG, the vid also shows one of the other clear cut chances that Clarke seemed inches from as it went straight across our six yard box.

So will I. Not a faultless performance but spirit was evident. In the past 2 or 3 seasons the chances that we'd have held on for that final 20m would have been zero.

Some injured to return, full match fitness for a few, learn more about each other & possibly an extra wide player & striker.

Not a bad start at all.

Only real concern is the gap between Madine and .... well EVERYBODY else. If that's the plan I'm not sure how we'll score regularly.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Great start, how much was down to their poor finishing as opposed to our great defending?

I pray that Madine up front is not PP first choice plan. We will simply not score enough goals

Madine did well yesterday. I mean we played in a particular way to hit diagonals to him and play from there. It worked in periods of the game and I thought Madine worked hard. Not sure we had the players to create from open play really so long throws and corners were our best chances. We should have played like this most of last season but Lennon was too thick to work it out.

If we can add a bit of pace out wide and up front we can play a little differently. However this will be an option for some games.

Thought Proctor looked decent when he came on, offered a little more mobility than Madine.

I suspect against weaker teams we'll play 442, but PP's tactics were spot on against one of the stronger teams in the division on opening day. We never really had an 'out ball' in the first 60 minutes yesterday. The addition of width and pace should make a huge difference, but it looks like we might be working towards a first principle of 'Do not conceed'. I can live with that for a few weeks until we get some loanees in. On another note....Blackburn......hahahahahahahahaha

I was also watching Parkinson & his assistant during the match and a lot of the time they were on the touchline, heads together, looking for improfvements it seemed they could do during the match. I like that...it seems a small thing, but it was good to see, and also the players coming to the touchline to listen to him when their man was down

Ha, I'll take it whatever. That's football and their problem. If we always finished our chances well ( think Madine last season) and hadn't given soft last minute goals away we'd still be in the Championship. A win's a win whichever way we get it.

Everyone has said exactly what I was thinking after watching the game yesterday. Vela was poor, Wilson is never a winger and the distance between Madine and midfield at time was too much. However, a win is a win and it was good to get that first one under our belts.

We need more pace though, although Parky tactics were spot on
Pfffft.

Great to get off to a win. That 'first win' has been a killer for a few seasons, leading to us always chasing. Top 6 in september and we can play with confidence. No news on Pratley yet?

Exactly that. We were easily one of the most wasteful teams in the Championship last season, so I'll happily take the one or two well-taken chances over countless wasted ones.

Madine is a frustrating player because he can take up great positions in the box but can't hit the target to save his life. He does a lot to help the team as a target man as well so its hard to dislike him but he needs to start putting the high number of chances he gets and headers he wins to good use.

Let's not paint the picture that Sheffield United created lots yesterday. They had one clear chance and that was the header early doors. After that they flashed a couple of balls across the box. I'd not class those as chances. They could have seriously gotten on the end of one f you're being generous. Remember that they didn't manage a single effort on target.

Their keeper made the only save of the match.

Anyone who makes out they created loads of chances is kidding themselves.

No, not loads. You've done what you often do and headed to the far end of the scale. I was sat right behind our goal and they didn't look very far off the two that flashed across the box. Not far off at all. That they had those chances is pretty indisputable. They were as Bobo said in the first 20 mins after which we settled down. On a different day one or all three might have gone in. They didn't and we're happy.

Yep, exactly as you say, Worthy, that's exactly how I saw it. Sat behind our goal as well
