Love Sam, but I feel like it would be going from one extreme to the other right now.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:22 pmThe players aren’t capable of playing the football - I’m not even sure anyone knows what the football they are trying to play is.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:19 pmSam was last seen spluttering about how he hates precisely the kind of football these players have been brought in to play.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:13 pmAgree that this is an absolutely cracking job for someone. Cracking job.
Lots of ‘Big Sam’ till end of the season stuff on social media and I’d not be totally opposed to that. I think any manager who won’t tolerate the nonsense these players produce and will tell them in no uncertain terms that there are basics of effort, fight and physical work required that are non negotiables, bare minimums I would take.
The players are not bothered and making a mockery out of us and the next manager has to be a really strong and dominant character who won’t take any nonsense.
You can hire Sam if you like, but it would be financially ruinous - we'd be flogging players we spent big money on for buttons.
The 87 points we got last season suggest we do not need to blow up the planet. We just need a better coach/manager to work with what we have.
I absolutely think we need to find a manager who will simplify it, extract the best out of what we’ve got and get them fighting.
For me it would be a mistake to think we are going to carry on as we are. This is a tough old league. We need to be much tougher.

Can you remember the Twitter anger when we lost three semi-finals under Sam? No, because Twitter didn't launch until the year before he walked out....DJBlu wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:20 pmWith Kevin Nolan as his assistant. Again, if the board sacked Evatt and were offered that combo they'd take it. They might even take it with the idea of Nolan transitioning to become manager over the next 2-3 years.
However, back in the real world it's more likely that we need to find a coach from the league we're in or the two below us. Maybe Scotland.
Sam's nearly 70 and loaded. It's easy to talk yourself up on a podcast. Taking a League One job is work. Once the initial media "Sam's Back!" bit got old he'd just be slogging away on not much money like any other gaffer at this level.

Also he’d only been here 6 months and took over a team near the bottom of the championship in financial turmoil.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:26 pmCan you remember the Twitter anger when we lost three semi-finals under Sam? I suspect people would be pretty happy even now with that.

I agree we need to be tougher. I do not agree that we need to play a very different style.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:22 pmThe players aren’t capable of playing the football - I’m not even sure anyone knows what the football they are trying to play is.

I dare say if Nolan comes as a package deal, the person that would be accompanying him would be David Moyes

I can remember the forum lurkers wanting KD replaced by a "proper striker" every summer and people wishing cancer on Sam when we lost the final to Boro.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:26 pmCan you remember the Twitter anger when we lost three semi-finals under Sam? Some of the same bellends just automatically go after every manager. The next bloke will have the same thing.

One poster on here wanted Sam out. One. And I dare say they wanted everyone out since.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:31 pmI can remember the forum lurkers wanting KD replaced by a "proper striker" every summer and people wishing cancer on Sam when we lost the final to Boro.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:26 pmCan you remember the Twitter anger when we lost three semi-finals under Sam? Again, any club at this level takes Moyes; but nobody can pay him.
He'd probably be a better appointment than Sam. He's actually won something in his career and he's nearly a decade younger.
However, the only reason people are hoping for Sam is they hope he loves the club enough to basically do it for free.

Sorry to dampen your ardour, and so soon after your Ainsworth twig, but a sixtysomething David Moyes in Division Three is about as likely as Dustin Hoffmann in your local church panto.

Haha. Not that I think for a moment that Moyes coming is realistic in the slightest but there's coaching history there.
Nobby has been doing some coaching in the England U20 setup after the reshuffle, might complicate things too.
Re: Terriers Barking, But Can Bolton Bite Back? - Bolton v Hudderfield - 14/09/2024 @ 3pm
Maybe that's whats needed. Allardyce knew how to get the ball forward and do something with it. Our players know how to get the ball out from the back and then make chances.
Feels like we've not cracked the getting the ball forward quickly part of that. Today's game being a prime example. Hoof an very little scraps (maybe Adeboyejo's).

Whereas Sam is more like getting Sir Ian back at the Bolton Little Theatre?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:33 pmSorry to dampen your ardour, and so soon after your Ainsworth twig, but a sixtysomething David Moyes in Division Three is about as likely as Dustin Hoffmann in your local church panto.

That's a fair comparison. Except as you've said, appearing in say a week's run of a show is different to the slog of a third-tier managerial career in your seventies. (Editor's note: Sam isn't 70 until next month.)GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:39 pmWhereas Sam is more like getting Sir Ian back at the Bolton Little Theatre?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 6:33 pmSorry to dampen your ardour, and so soon after your Ainsworth twig, but a sixtysomething David Moyes in Division Three is about as likely as Dustin Hoffmann in your local church panto.
