Shitter about juke but surely there are other target men out there?

Hadn't thought of McNaughton, that'd be nice, proper defender. Saw a story today saying Hutton wanted to know why Villa wouldn't let him join West Brom. Maybe they don't want him to go to a Prem Rival so he's coming here! Pessimism to optimism in three easy steps.

Thought it was OD guessing. Looks like it's true, will fecking do for me. A defender, nay, a full-back who can defend!!BWFC_Insane wrote:McNaughton sounds like a done deal Pru. If someone had said 'give you McNaughton for Baptiste' I'd have ripped their arm off.

Excellent news. Played superbly well against us as a left back in the cup game too.

Why I prefer mcnaughton to baptiste is because he is an actual right back!
I still think Baptiste at centre half is a decent championship player and when freedman signed him I found it bizarre he was shoehorned in at right back, then even more so left back!
Where does it leave Riley and Threlkeld? Get either or even both out on loan IMO both need first team football. Short term or with recall options.
Happy with it all bar the strikers now. I'd shift chungy for someone more consistent as well if we could.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
Why are we training up other people's youngsters?
This is indeed good news, assuming (as we probably now must) that the in-and-out hasn't increased the wage bill. In truth, despite the costcutting McNaughton on anything like last year's form probably would be an exception worth making.
Last year, before he arrived our league results were Pl9 W0 D4 L5. Then he joined and we didn't lose for six weeks.
Over the season, with Kev in the team we went Pl13 W6 D4 L3, without him (lge) we were Pl33 W8 D13 L12.
With Kev we won 46% and lost 23% of games; without him we won 24% and lost 36% (lge).
Our PPG with him was 1.69 - over a season, that's 78pts, comfortably a play-off total in every season since the play-offs were invented.
Our PPG without him (lge) was 1.12 - over a season, that's 52pts; last few seasons that would have got you 18th, 18th, 19th, 21st, 21st and 23rd.
The most important thing he does is organise the defence. It's not daft to imagine him as LB cover if Moxey's out (before Tierney's return) with Threlkeld/Riley stepping in. Agree with Dibs that Riley might need a loan out - I'd rather keep Oscar close by for now as first reserve or rotated-in sub.

Very impressed with all the transfer activity, and to be honest with Doogie Hauser in general. This is our year I tells ya, promotion via the play-offs

I wouldn't get too excited, we need somebody who can score goals.freeindeed wrote:Very impressed with all the transfer activity, and to be honest with Doogie Hauser in general. This is our year I tells ya, promotion via the play-offs
We can't rely on Beckford and Craig Davies!

We will definitely sign at least 1 striker. Freedman acknowledged we are short there last week. Quite possibly a loan - I think they will buy someone and get a loan in.adamworthy2002 wrote:I wouldn't get too excited, we need somebody who can score goals.freeindeed wrote:Very impressed with all the transfer activity, and to be honest with Doogie Hauser in general. Confusing rumours on Twitter. Supposedly Juke is signing for Burnley on Monday. The Oracle doesn't believe this although he admits Burnley are interested in signing him.
Lets face it, Burnley have come into money and the pull of the Premiership will be too much to turn down. I really can't see him getting many games if he does sign for Burnley though. I hope we are coppering up and are ready to pounce.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
The Baptiste thing just gets more bizarre. Dougie signed him proclaiming him a right back, presumably having discussed this with Baptiste during negotiations. Baptiste is now reported to be saying it didn't work out at Bolton because he was played out of position and he considers himself a centre back. I understand playing him at full back because of the injuries, but Dougie proclaiming him a full back when all along Baptiste wanted to play centre back seems a bit weird.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
I can get that he was a right back asked to play left back .... but yes, chucking in the centre half bit was very strange. Not because he's not but because DF seemed not to pick him there to a point of zealousness.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:The Baptiste thing just gets more bizarre. As said previously it was so absolute it seemed like it was forbidden. This suggests otherwise. Very, very odd.

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
If Dougie signed him as a full back, and Baptiste came here knowing he would be played at full back, then there's no problem or confusion is there. Dougie is happy with his centre backs, so there's no need to mix it up and play Baptiste there.
