Think he means one player who can do both roles.bobo the clown wrote:So, apart from him getting stroppy, does that mean one player ... who can play both wing and striker ? ... or, a bit like the Frandsen/Johannsen deal we take one for a fee and get his mate with him.TKIZ! wrote:Just to make everyone's night, more from the Oracle's twinttererererrer feed:

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I can't believe we're not in for Spearing at £1.5m. Sure, English players cost more, but they also sell for more. Cannot see a 24 year old English midfielder losing much on that. Not like they'd be loaning him to us for free either, if we went down that route. I was wary when they were talking around the £3m mark, but he's a bargain at, well, half the price.

Not me, so ha! In fact, I'm so convinced we are, that I literally, absolutely, cannot believe we aren't. I can't see anything other than us being in for Jay Spearing

I can see another loan coming on with view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.
Spearing will turn down Blackburn and leave Liverpool no choice but to accept

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
He's out of contract at the end of next season.

Rovers have Spearing bid accepted

WANDERERS are running out of time to enter the race to sign Jay Spearing.
Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers have agreed a £1.75million fee for the Liverpool midfielder, who spent last season on loan at the Reebok.
The Ewood Park club are currently trying to raise the cash to fund the deal – which is likely to happen in the next few days with exits expected for striker Mauro Formica and defender Martin Olsson.
But while Wanderers fans are desperate to see the Anfield academy graduate back at the club, it looks highly unlikely Freedman will be handed enough cash to match the asking price – news that is likely to sting should the player end up wearing blue and white halves next term.
Spearing ideally wants to remain in the Premier League but sources close to the 24-year-old believe he would pick Wanderers above anyone else in the Championship were they to match Rovers’ bid.
Freedman, who is in Spain with his squad, has reserved most of his free cash for improving his attacking options and has been hinting for the last fortnight a winger and a striker would be the next positions on his list.
Spearing’s apparent availability may now affect his thinking – and few signings would be better received on the Reebok terraces than the Scouse terrier, who was arguably the club’s most consistent player last season.
Speaking to The Bolton News just before the weekend, Freedman admitted he has work to do in the transfer market before being completely happy with his squad for the new season.
“I’ve still got a way to go in terms of having an all-round squad,” he said. “I want a squad that is pushing each other and I felt in certain games last season that I looked at the bench and it wasn’t strong enough.
“I am comfortable with my starting 11 but I am still uncomfortable with the squad as a whole.
“I have said many times that I felt it was a bit imbalanced at times and that’s maybe where the ins and outs will come in. I think it’s good for the club to freshen things up.
“A good bench is key in the Championship – with Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday games coming up as often as they do.
“I felt last season that we slipped up on one or two midweek games. That was the key.”
Medo Kamara would be the player most equipped to step into Spearing’s defensive midfield role, but the lack of cover in that position may well be a concern for the Wanderers boss.
The first bit is worrying, the second bit makes me hope ChrisC is right about Spearing forcing the issue.

I think Dougie has done too good a job of convincing Eddie davies that spending money is unnecessary and he can do well just by waving his magic wand at young players (so to speak!).

We don't really know what Dougie's thinking. Looking on the club website there is a gallery of training in Spain... a few faces I haven't seen for a while seem to be doing some form of training.
No point in spending £2M plus high-ish wages unless you have to.

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Sell Pratley. Simples

IMO Pratley is a very important player in this league. Nobody in the team covers ground like he does. He never stops running and putting opposition players under pressure. I would keep him personally.plymouth wanderer wrote:Sell Pratley. Simples

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Same I think. I mean the thing is that Spearing and Medo are sort of similar in many ways. Pratley covers a lot of ground so I'd not be that willing to shunt him out.ChrisC wrote:IMO Pratley is a very important player in this league. Nobody in the team covers ground like he does. He's a basic footballer but he knows what you need to do to get promoted and I think his athleticism is underrated.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I don't think Blackburn will come up with the money. Formica was due to move but failed a medical and is on high wages. So he wont be going anywhere this summer you would think. Olsson is apparently holding Norwich to ransom for daft wages, so that could fall through also.LeverEnd wrote:ChrisC wrote:Prufrock wrote:Not me, so ha! Have to wait and see I suppose, but Dougie is looking for a defensive midfielder. That could end up being a loan though.

Fair do's Chris. IMO Spearing is a better player, wasn't he our player of the season last time out? 1.5mill is a snip

Pratley is fecking shit. I'm not exaggerating when I say he struggles to kick the ball straight. It's unbelievable how little ability he has.
Yes, he runs around a lot, which masks the fact that he actually does the total sum of feck all on a football pitch.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
I agree. We should be in for Spearing 100% but for what we would get for Pratley, He is better off sticking around I think. Invaluable in games against teams like Brighton who pass you to death. You need someone to close down and rush the opposition.plymouth wanderer wrote:Fair do's Chris. IMO Spearing is a better player, wasn't he our player of the season last time out? 1.5mill is a snip
Some wont agree but that's just my opinion.
