Bolton manager Owen Coyle is poised to raid old club Burnley with a £400,000 move for Tyrone Mears.
Now we are getting realistic

When you think we paid 3M for Steinsson and over 2M for Ricketts, 400k for Mears is a great deal. He's a fairly good defender. Better than Steinsson anyhoo.

It doesn't commit either party to actually move, nor hold said discussions nor make that the minimum accepted.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

That could be our new tag-line ... "Welcome to the Reebok ... home of the fairly good defender".

And it's Real Madrid who are thinking about paying it for the purposes of pissing Barca off.

It does commit Barca. We could bid the £8billion buy out (may have made that up) for Messi and if somehow he decided he wanted to come here, they couldn't stop him. It wouldn't force him to though. He'd just say 'no-o' or whatever Spanish for 'no' is.

Lets get realistic !!!
I'd love Thiago at the club, even at 7-8 million, But if it happens, I'll plait piss !!
We're going to have to get used to the likes of Mears, Pratley, Nugent, Jerome Etc. Because these are the realistic signings that we can expect, with the money we've got.
Don't forget we need at least 6 or 7 players to get squad up to strength.

Different times I know, but: JJ; Campo; Djiorkef; Hierro; Anelka, et al. We have a good history of attracting a top player

FFS these two posts sum up the either/or theory that exists with our transfers.

Either we have "no chance" or they are "all shite".

IF Coyle is bidding for Thiago then presumably he's doing so because we have SOME chance of getting him. Any player you go for now will have other clubs chasing them even the "below par championship ones".

And FWIW the likes of Mears, Pratley, Nugent and Jerome may not be "top names" but I'd suggest all 4 would improve our squad for the right price. Pratley would have literally walked into our midfield once Holden and Davies were out last season. So all this "below par championship" bollocks pisses me off a bit.

We currently have a strikeforce of Davies and Klasnic. So whilst Nugent and Jerome would be far from ideal they'd still be better than just the 2 we have. Obviously not for silly money. But all 4 could add something to our squad. Not saying we should sign any of them just that as much as its bollocks to say "lets not bother bidding for Thiago" its also bollocks to think that any player who isn't an unknown foreigner or a big name already is shite especially when compared to some of the existent and non-existent back up in our squad.

Well for what its worth i think we can do alot better than those four names, but that is just my opinion.

Nugent is a good player for what it's worth and would be an improvement on Robbie Blake.

And he has a 1 goal a game ratio for England
