Does the club need an anthem?

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
It would be good to have a club song but all the songs mentioned above have developed over years, if not generations and built up to become 'an anthem'
Its not something that you can pick and say 'right this is going to be our club anthem from now onwards,' its got to develop and become a part of the traditions of the club. Plus, if you let the club pick it, they WILL get it wrong.

Who's that coming up the hill boys,
The Wanderers are coming up the hill boys,
They all laugh at us, they all mock at us,
They all say our days are numbered,
Born to be a Wanderer, victorious are we....

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
I'd love for the club to have an anthem. It's no use putting forward songs that people may agree or disagree with - real anthems have developed and evolved over years and have a traditional quality. It's too artificial otherwise.
Re: Does the club need an anthem?
I'm in the 'I'm not that arsed, wouldn't mind it, it's never going to happen' camp.
The club have tried on various occaisons and nobody cared, and as a fanbase we're too apathetic to come up with anything on our own.
Never mind a club anthem, I wouldn't mind any form of original chants for our players, as opposed to "There's only one Daniel Sturridge/Gary Cahill/Martin Petrov/Matty Taylor/Ricardo Vaz Te/Mark Davies/Jack Wilshere" or "Jo-han El-man-der/Nic-las Anel-ka". nice people as they are, Liverpool have a different chant for about every player on their books.

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
It needs something that everyone knows and is easy to sing.
Hi Ho Silver lining by Jeff Beck would be my choice.
Nothing to do with football but good beat and easy to sing.
By the way The Wanderer was Dion and the Delmonts NOT Status Quo !!!

The answer to the question 'Does the club need an anthem?' is no. Patently.
In a world that has decided

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
I agree with whole heartedly but no-one starts chants because of the fear that no-one else will join in with them or that knuckle dragging corner don't like it.Tombwfc wrote:I'm in the 'I'm not that arsed, wouldn't mind it, it's never going to happen' camp.

It was like when the club tried to instigate the singing section in the North stand, they just get shouted down by the knuckle draggers or drowned out by the drummers.

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
Be nice to have one, seems to late now
And its a bit shit if its forced on you by the club, it should be something we started singing, not been told to sing
But it was fecking embarrassing (and not for the last time that day) at wembley having a fecking song pumped out and no-one having a clue what was going on

It was a publicity stunt by this lot: http://twitter.com/#!/TheJadeAssembly/s ... 7870579712" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;officer_dibble wrote:But it was fecking embarrassing (and not for the last time that day) at wembley having a fecking song pumped out and no-one having a clue what was going on
Re: Does the club need an anthem?
If you want a traditional sing with a sing-a-long chorus that has some relevance to the history and traditions of the club, then we've already got a ready made anthem and this is it:

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
The Houghton Weavers even offered to re-record it and donate the profits to the statue fund:

How come our resident rock star/god hasn't recorded anything for us yet, DSB?

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
YES. DEFINATELY. 100%. It's one of my main gripes about the profile of the club. I think this whole, 'has to be developed over years' is a nice idea but ultimately a bit of a cop out. Would be good to get the BWSA onboard with this idea and maybe a song can be chosen/voted on over the summer in time for next season. All that has to happen is to get the club on board playing the track at key moments such as start of the game/after every goal/end of the game etc. and just see if it catches on! It doesn't cost anything and if it fails, so be it (it'll be much better than that 'just cant get enough' crap at any rate!). I dont know how long Stoke have been singing 'why delilah' but I have a feeling it's only come around recently i.e since they won promotion.
Anyway, yes i'm 100% behind the idea/anything I can do help. The whole changing the badge thing is more of a pipe dream, I strongly believe a club anthem of sorts has to be a priority.

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
Apart from anything, BWFC is obviously trying to make matchday more of an "event" with the half time amusements, goal music etc. They just need some help from the supporters (BWSA?) in order to choose the right tune. It's a no-brainer. Gets people happy/excited, ready to sing and make noise, adds to the spectacle etc.wanderers_on_tour wrote:YES. DEFINATELY. 100%. Sounds like the BWSA need the vast majority of fans to think it's an amazing idea so I'm not sure how pro-active they want to be.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: Does the club need an anthem?
I was fully expecting either to be lumped with something like 'just can't get enough' but was hoping we would get the Lion of Vienna. That was embarrassing, confusing and tbh I really felt like it'd had just been stuck onto a YouTube tribute!BL3 wrote:It was a publicity stunt by this lot: http://twitter.com/#!/TheJadeAssembly/s ... 7870579712" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;officer_dibble wrote:But it was fecking embarrassing (and not for the last time that day) at wembley having a fecking song pumped out and no-one having a clue what was going on
Fully support a club anthem. Definitely needs to be something the fans pick. A vote/poll done by the club o supporters trust could decide on one. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work. Worth a try I think.

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
I might just take a megaphone and launch into some Elvis, would be better than everyone sitting round and having a debate about whether we should have 'Sounds of the Underground' by Girls Aloud, or 'Pray' by Take That at a BWSA meeting.
And oh learnered ones, what is this Jade Assembly thing that seems to have passed me by, as usual?

Re: Does the club need an anthem?
Clubs develop anthems simply by repetition over a long time.
If they're going to do it, pick a song and stick with it for more than a couple of home games. It'll catch on sooner or later, even if people moan in the short term. |
Theres no magic formula.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

As long as it isn't that 'just cant get enough rubbish'!Lord Kangana wrote:Clubs develop anthems simply by repetition over a long time.

So, what happens now, I think a poll on this subject is a tad pointless seeing as most people are up for the idea and even those who aren't on board aren't against the idea in principle. If we can continue the suggestions, get a shortlist/ poll going on them and then branch out to BWSA/other websites first. Anyone on twitter/facebook want to spread the word??
