Left him out against Swansea, got hammererd, played him against Stoke, won 5-0. Same old singers, same old song. Same old bollox
We could easily replace Davies as 'target men' are easy to get and are not high in value. In my opinion we could get a younger, faster 'target man' with a better touch for what we're paying Davies.
As for Swansea, surely you're not saying that Davies was the sole difference? The reason we got battered by Swansea was because Nathan Dyer completely tore us apart, whereas Stoke had no pace in their midfield at all to do any damage like that in defence (I think if Etherington had played it would have been a completely different game).

We offeredd robbie blake a new contract, of course we'll offer our captain one no matter how long such a privilege lasts. He may not be guaranteed starting place week in/ week out but still has alot to offer in the same manner gardner and other senior players do.

I hate to agree but this is definitely true. If Robbie Blake can get a new contract then I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Steinsson here again next season.wanderers_on_tour wrote:We offeredd robbie blake a new contract, of course we'll offer our captain one no matter how long such a privilege lasts. Offer him the same terms as Elmander.

Re: Kev Davies future on hold
No, indeed I'm not. We lost because our midfield and defence played crap. The point is that replacing him up front didn't have any effect, and never will, unless the team play well and give him, or who replaces him, some support. KD can't and won't go on forever, but getting shut till that time comes is pointless to me. When somebody's playing so well Davies can't get in the team, fair enough. Our recent record of about fifteen games and shipping more goals than the Titanic shipped water doesn't indicate getting rid of him, more the rest needing a kick up the arse.Gail Platz wrote: As for Swansea, surely you're not saying that Davies was the sole difference? Re: Kev Davies future on hold
I don't know the exact deal with Robbie Blake but if he's on reduced wages (appearance-related maybe) while doing his coaching badges that'd be fine. Next season he might be installed as a "shooting coach" or something, which would leave a space for SKD as a wise head / cover on the bench.Gail Platz wrote:I hate to agree but this is definitely true. However, I can't see this happening. This year it has taken a lot for SKD to be dropped and he's been straight back in at the earliest opportunity. Club captain etc. I just can't see him being happy to be on the bench every week. If he signs something I'm sure he'd want to be on high-ish wages and with a decent shout of starting.
BTW, went to a League One game recently and apparently their team's worst player is on £20k too. If £20k is what a terrible leftback in League One gets and we're paying that to Robbie Blake it's not too bad, still a bit high for 10 minutes per season plus carling cup tho.
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: Kev Davies future on hold
Which terrible left back in League One is on 20k a year? I'd be amazed if any player, terrible or otherwise, was on anything like 20k a week in League One.
Anyway, assuming it's above the minimum wage, whatever we're paying Blake is too much for a bloke that is effectively retired. It's a ridiculous situation to be honest.
I don't think Davies is going anywhere.

Davo, Gary Cahill, Martin Petrov, Zat Knight and Gretar Steinsson - who are the other six?
Re: Kev Davies future on hold
Still absolutely has a role to play. If for nothing else other than there is nobody in the league a tired defender would want to see less for the last ten minutes. Davo gets a new contract, definitely (as long as he'd tale it on reduced wages). I reckon long term N'Gog is his successor.
Most of all though, that original article, the SEVEN minute long video at the top is f*cking embarrassing. Set of tools.

Re: Kev Davies future on hold
That was my big question too.General Mannerheim wrote:Davo, Gary Cahill, Martin Petrov, Zat Knight and Gretar Steinsson - who are the other six?
And for the record, I'm with Tom rather than armchair - no way is a bad third-tier left-back on £20k per week, that's a million quid a year. In fact, the confusion (if it's not simply Angry Terrace Bullshit) may arise because he's on £20k per *year* - £1kpw is a fairly common wage in the fourth tier, so I can imagine a third-choice third-tier left-back being on £500 pw.
As for Davo's contract, we'll see in the spring. Frankly, he's settled in the area and has made his name through being committed to the cause. I'd be surprised if he started agitating, talking to other clubs or sulking.
Oh and at the minute we don't know what division we're in next year, so let's see how much cloth we have before we start cutting it.

Re: Kev Davies future on hold
Dunno but Robbie Blake and Ricardo Gardinho both only signed for a year int summer so there's two more. Robbo?m_taylor wrote:Is Jussi one of them?General Mannerheim wrote:Davo, Gary Cahill, Martin Petrov, Zat Knight and Gretar Steinsson - who are the other six?
Businesswoman of the year.

Kevin Davies (Another year - Less Money)
Gary Cahill (Would love to keep him but realistically off)
Martin Petrov (big money i would imagine and too old now)
Zat Knights (might be worth another year if Cahill does go unless we bring in an experienced defender)
Steinsson (not the best in the world and we do have Riley and Mears)
Robbie Blake (Simple NO)
Ricardo Gardner (If he stays Injury free then maybe another year)
Jussi (If we can replace him with another keeper other than Bogdan then let him go)
Sam Ricketts (Can play across the back)
Paul Robinson (Replace)
Sean Davis (Who? lol)
Ivan Klasnic (Another year for me)
Tope Obadeyi (Is he on-loan somewhere this year)
