Re: Down with a wimper
Coyle is taking a lot of stick at the moment and rightly so given his apparent complete lack of nous on even basic tactics. However, the blame for this last 5 years must rest squarely on the chairman's head. He chose to slag BSA off and lose credibility, he chose to appoint Lee, Megon and Coyle. The buck should stop there but I guarantee it won't be his head that's rolling.
What is important is that we prepare adequately for next season, with or without Coyle. This seaon is effectively over.

Re: Down with a wimper
It doesnt matter if Coyle is in the last six months of his contract as regards paying him off.
It would be cheaper to pay him to leave than to drop out of the Prem.
Pay him off and bring in someone else (dont know who but anyone would be better than Coyle)

Re: Down with a wimper
I'm taking it as a given that no new manager can possibly do worse than if Coyle stayed for the rest of this season. So the way I see the options is:
- sack him now. Downsides: lose a few more £££ in compensation, quite possibly go down anyway, if not find ourselves in the same situation (thin squad, no money, mediocre manager) next year. Upside: have a better chance of going down fighting. Showing some goddamn pride and guts trying to salvage our hard-won 10 year Premiership status (best in my lifetime)
- don't sack him. Downside: definitely go down, endure the most pitiful and humiliating five months most of us will ever experience as fans. Upside: avoids paying the money out if we replace him in the summer; if we don't, maybe OC can use the championship to rebuild, do a Burnley, and we end up reaping the benefits of managerial continuity.
Any game theorists out there want to put some numbers on the variables and make it a scientific calculation?

Thanks. That has actually cheered me up a bit. If Coyle stays at the club we will go down ....... Fecked
Administration will probably see the club fall into Div 1 .....Fecked
I am now going to contradict my previous tongue in cheek post..............
Getting rid of Coyle is the only chance we have to stay in the Prem and stave off disaster.
We are now in a worse position than when he took over, so anyone with half a brain can see that he cant improve the clubs position.
He has had his chance and blown it.
Time to give someone else a chance, cos we are in the "Last chance saloon"
Relegation would signal a decade of hardship for the club.
No Relegation at all cost.

Been here before. We'll be here after Coyle.

Same could be said about Div4. Doesn't mean we want it to happen.

Well no.
But then there'd be no c*nt on here pointing out how loyal they were if their loyalty wasn't tested.
As it happens, we're talking about relegation from the Premier League for the first time in a decade. Not to division 4.

Re: Down with a wimper
From the sort of 'holy cow' moments from some of the posters you would think it was that serious. Despite our tendencies as fans to over-react we've seen situations like this before. In fact we've been at the bottom of the league for some time before. We've also had situations where we've lacked passion and fight and come out of it. Heck Allardyce's tenure wasn't all hunky dory at times, was very manic depressive at times where we had really bad streaks followed by really good streaks.Lord Kangana wrote:As it happens, we're talking about relegation from the Premier League for the first time in a decade. Re: Down with a wimper
I've heard it of alot of fans down the years too, i actually saw a picture of him with others on the wall in there when i was younger so he must of had something to do with the place. He was a businessman who was into most things, he joined the board in 1989 but was still involved in that place at that time but got the job he always wanted in 1999 when he became chairman.CAPSLOCK wrote:Who told you that?
