Interesting that not many people go for mark davies

i suggest he'd flourish under a proper manager but eagles would still get more goals in the hole

it matters not; barring the left back predicament (and fwiw id sign one on loan first day in the job) this squad should be top 6 no danger

And we'd leave 2 up top when defending corners
Something I can never understand us not doing. KD, N'gog, Eagles etc making clearances in a box where everybody is getting in everybody else's way. That and the amount of backs in view strolling away when the opposition take a throw in or quick corner. Add in the full backs getting sucked towards the play and leaving the back post unmarked for a winger to come in. These things happen too often to be missed.

Amazing how most of these lineups look better than what coyle puts out. I agree with Tango that KD still has a part to play but not as a lone man in a 451 he's just not mobile enough for that.So for what it's worth....

..............Bogdan
Riley Ricketts Knight Ream
.......Spearing Alonso
LCY,,,,,,Eagles.......Petrov
............Sordell or NGog

I think Ngog can be decent in a 451 but if Sordell can do the same job and offer more goal threat then he should be starting.Another alternative would be to put Alonso on the left instead of Petrov and play Andrews central.

Really the key priority has to be sorting out a settled and effective defense and that includes organising the whole team to defend as a unit not just the back 4.

It may even be that only one of Eagles/Mavis/Petrov should ever start in the same 11as there is no defensive side to their game.Like Dibble and others have been saying for some time we need a left back unless Ream, who I believe has most of the key attributes needed for the position, comes good.

I'm really surprised at the lack of inclusion of Kevin Davies from most, if not all on here. On current form he's our best striker, there's no escaping that. As everyone knows I'm not a big KD supporter but there's no arguing his place in the side at the moment in my opinion. So:

----------Bogdan----------
Riley--Knight--Ream--Ricketts
Lee--Eagles--Spearing--Petrov
-------Davies---Sordell--------

If that leaves us too open, and/or if Davies isn't working, then revert to a 5-man midfield with either Andrews *shiver* or Mark Davies coming into centre midfield, with Eagles as support for Sordell.

I think it might :) Too many "flair" players and not enough battlers in our squad.

..............Bogdan
Riley Ricketts Knight Ream
.......Spearing SKD..........
LCY.......Eagles.......Petrov

This would be my line-up, 2 best defenders in the center, backed-up by two defensive midfielders, become difficult to beat/score against, and the 4 attacking players will get plenty of joy. Same as Ianmooreslovechild although I wouldn't mind trying SKD instead of Alonso in a DM position, just think he'd fit well, has all the attributes, good tackler, workrate, leader, win headers, doesn't panic, actually very good passer as well. Might work, might be a disaster but worth a shot for a game or two. If it didn't work then Alonso.

I can see the appeal of that although his timing of tackles and reputation may be an issue. KD could probably do a better job at centre half than Ream or Mills aswell but the parallel to the 80s team with an aging alan gowling at centre half could be a little disquieting

The u21's us just the reserves. You're allowed a certain number of "over age" players.

Yeah I know. Just quite a fall from grace is all.

So we've got Gardner who people want in the first team, Ream who is an and around the first team, Joe Riley who people want in the first team.

They all played the other night.. Against non-league Stockport's reserve team.. And they conceded twice....

Reserve football is not always a good measure though. Under Allardyce I remember seeing first teamers look bobbins in the ressies then come Saturday they were in the first team playing blinders......

Problem is though that virtually none of our players, bar maybe Knight and Eagles are performing to ability, so picking an 11 under the current conditions is always going to be a leap of faith and come with a fair few assumptions!

Maybe he could just stick to a settled team for a few weeks rather than "You didn't mark somebody for a shot that almost went in, so you're dropped" or "that unfortunate ricochet that fell to the feet of their striker from your shin? Yeah.. Well you're at fault for the whole season so far, because I'm a coward and don't take responisibility. You're dropped too"

Then we might start seeing some performances.
