I think you're arguing about nowt. I said they liked his ability but thought he wasn't fit. Which is basically what you'd expect.boltonboris wrote:That's much better..BWFC_Insane wrote:I think that's semantics. Ok he was wayyy of the pace and unfit then.boltonboris wrote:So "unfit" and "way off the pace", translates to "Woeful".
As I said. Hyperbole
Is that better?
I like that you've chosen to cherry pick the ones that support your hyperbolic claims though and not the rest of them, who say they were impressed with his effort and quality.
I don't think there is anything in that thread to suggest that isn't their general opinion.
Is it really worth arguing about? I'm sure he's benefitted from the match time but still hasn't played for 90 minutes and was only once played in two consecutive games. It's obvious he has some way to go yet.

As soon as I saw "the last thing I need is a holiday" or whatever he said, I thought as much. But I think the deadline is at the end of this month.. I'm not sure.Loyal White wrote:I wonder if he'll end up back in MLS over the summer in a loan deal to try and get some games under his belt ready for next season?

Re: STU-SA
The impression I've gotten from my mate who's a Wednesday fan and has seen all of Holden's games is that he's got better with every game he's played, worked his nuts off and is looking more sharp again but he was being played as a defensive right midfielder. I think he'll be fine next to Medo in a one off game or against a really good team like Cardiff we could even try a midfield 3 of Medo, Pratley and Stu just to gain more control of the game and free up Eagles and Chungy a bit more
Re: STU-SA
He's back to warm the space left on the bench by SKD. MInd you, it'd take him AND Eaves to keep that space warm.
I'm just praying he gets a good pre season in and is fit for next year. Another breakdown will see the end of his career, so lets hope the club have adequate insurance for his new contract should that happen. I'd hate to see another Saun Davies/Joey OB episode

That's exactly what I think he'll do on Saturday, but starting with Vela instead of Stu.Wrighty92 wrote:The impression I've gotten from my mate who's a Wednesday fan and has seen all of Holden's games is that he's got better with every game he's played, worked his nuts off and is looking more sharp again but he was being played as a defensive right midfielder. We've not really done too well, when we've started with that shape under Dougie though..

Re: STU-SA
Yeh, I'd personally rather save Stu for the Blackpool game when we're more likely to control the play as Blackpool will just come to play on the counter against us. I think we need the legs and toughness of Vela, Pratley, Medo against Cardiff to get stuck in there. I'd rather we went for it with 2 in the middle and brought one on for fresher legs if we're looking good for a result and then let Stu train for another week with the lads and start the Blackpool game

Don't be stupid.
That would be too much like sense!

Re: STU-SA
I wonder what sort of contract we've offered?
I think I'd offer something like a one year deal with an automatic one year extension if he plays 20 games - something like that. Hard to say on money as the money available for wage bill drops after next season.

Regardless of what's on offer, it just needs to be better than anything else drops on his mat before he can find that all too elusive biro!

Doesn't preclude him being 'way off the pace'boltonboris wrote:That's much better..BWFC_Insane wrote:I think that's semantics. Ok he was wayyy of the pace and unfit then.boltonboris wrote:So "unfit" and "way off the pace", translates to "Woeful".

I'm told he is way off where he was - doesn't mean he's not a better option than our alternatives should anything untoward happen to Pratley and Mido, though
Let's not forget, Lee played last April - way, way, way from ready
Also told the contract on offer will be very good financially if he gets back playing regularly

Stu's brother was with the Bury squad having their fitness checks earlier in the week, he was the fittest player they'd ever had tested - sign him up!
And even better news, the rest of the Bury squad were as fit as Jardel(pie boy)!

Re: STU-SA
He'll be busy for much of the summer with the national team, who've got eight fixtures between late May and mid-July: Belgium May 29th, Germany June 2nd, Jamaica 7th, Panama 11th, Honduras 18th; Belize July 9th, Cuba 13th, Costa Rica 16th. (All fixtures are in the US except Jamaica.)
The Belgium game is two days after the Play-Off Final, in case you're wondering - and the squad should be back in pre-season training by the first week of July, although it's debatable whether Stuey would be better suited doing that or getting pitch-minutes with his national team. Dougie will know...

Re: STU-SA
All talk of Holden's progress seems to revolve around his physical state and not his mental state. When your game's all-action and bottling nowt, there must be a little piece of doubt, fear even, somewhere in his mind, certainly when it comes to 50/50 balls. Hopefully if there is then this will recede with game time and match fitness.
May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: STU-SA
this seems to be the breakthrough that Lee has managed... he doesn't now appear to be holding anything back at all in those 50-50 challenges... i fear for his safety!Bruce Rioja wrote:All talk of Holden's progress seems to revolve around his physical state and not his mental state. I don't know about that.. He doesn't bottle it after getting hit anymore, but he certainly doesn't go near a 50/50thebish wrote:this seems to be the breakthrough that Lee has managed... he doesn't now appear to be holding anything back at all in those 50-50 challenges... i fear for his safety!Bruce Rioja wrote:All talk of Holden's progress seems to revolve around his physical state and not his mental state. Re: STU-SA
Two problems here. One, he's likely to get hurt. MLS referees let a lot go. U.S. defenders tend to possess a great deal of size, strength, and pace at the expense of actual ability.Loyal White wrote:I wonder if he'll end up back in MLS over the summer in a loan deal to try and get some games under his belt ready for next season?
Two, the process of acquiring a returning U.S. national team player is pretty complicated. Read on if you want a bit of an MLS primer, but the short version is that it would probably be a huge pain in the butt to get him for only a few months.
Houston MAY hold the rights to Holden, so if someone else wants him, they have to trade for it.
If Houston doesn't hold the rights to Holden, then he would have to go through something called the "allocation process." Back when MLS was founded in 1996, the only marketable names in the U.S. were national team players, so a system was devised to disperse them throughout the league.
Teams are ranked 1-19 . . . Team #1 has first crack at a U.S. international who is entering the league. If they don't want him, team #2 has the option to take him. If Team #2 takes him, they move down to #19 and everyone below them moves up. You can also make trades. Seattle wanted Eddie Johnson, so they traded two players to Montreal so they could move up in the order and get him.
So basically, trade some money or draft picks to get an unfit player for a few months.
