maybe the problem is that Dougie doesn't know what his best side is yet - and can't think of anyone who'd automatically play every week if fit...

Didn't that happen when he left Ajax for a 2nd time to go not to Barca but to Feyenoord?
'73, wasn't it? The mardy arse.

On captains, Allardyce always said there were two types: those who led by troop-rallying and force of will (Butcher, Terry), and those less vocal types who led by quiet example (Beckham, Bergsson). The fans only really notice the sleeves-rolled type, and as Boris says you shouldn't really need someone to be bawling at you, but it helps to have a (wisely) vocal leader or two when you're up against it.
There are also two types of captain depending on the playing position. Your John Terrys and your goalie captains see the overall distribution of the team, and organise accordingly with more emphasis on retaining shape.
Whereas your Super Kevin Daviess and your Beckhams see the movement of the ball and organise with more emphasis on promoting movement of players. (In my opinion).

I wouldn't rule that option out.

I personably wonder if he's waiting for Stu to return.

The lads played good minutes for the US so should be reet to do so for us starting next Saturday.
Get him back and get the band round him! The lad is made for it.

(If we ever find a bloody pen for him)

Ideally, the captain should be a central defender or sweeper who can see what's happening and direct his players.

I saw my right arm off to have Nolan back in midfield as captain. Bet Dougie would too.

Though I'd rather he sawed his own off.....

Agree, about him back as captain not the arm thing, sounds a far too painful and radical to me :D

2 out, 1 in.
2 out, 1 in.
2 out, 1 in.

Ad infinitum. Until the squad isn't full of wasters and shithouses.

Exactly how it should be an' all

The captain's arm-band might slip off though?
