Not seen enough of Moritz and Hall. So far I'm disappointed with the others.

Yeah.. Mears for me. Athletic offers us width when we have the ball and is at least as good defensively as Baptiste in the full back position. Very unfairly maligned by a section of our support.

Did well going forward last night did Mears. Overlapped really well.boltonboris wrote:Yeah.. Mears for me. Athletic offers us width when we have the ball and is at least as good defensively as Baptiste in the full back position. Very unfairly maligned by a section of our support.
I'd take issue that he's as good as Baptiste defensively though. Got beaten a couple of times and one of those his "efforts" to stop the player going past him were poor indeed.
However, I think Baptiste to centre back may well be forced on us and don't think it would be a bad idea to try it.

Re: New Signings
Baptiste isn't a full back. He's terrible at it. But he *looks* like he'd be ok at centre half.
That's why I said Mears is as good if not better. Because Mears is at lest competent.
It's a massive shame that our manager is exposing Baptiste so regularly. He looks like a broken man with his body language. That's probably someone else's fault though, eh?

He seemed happy enough playing right back for Blackpool last season.boltonboris wrote:Baptiste isn't a full back. He's terrible at it. But he *looks* like he'd be ok at centre half.

Re: New Signings
I'm not convinced he did that often. And even if he did, the general consensus from them, is that he's better at CB. Or maybe Blackpool had managers last season who were savvy enough to give the defence enough protection. Imagine that.

Baptiste has been nothing short of disastrous up to now. AND he looks like a foetus.

Re: New Signings
Although I agree Boris how much protection do our defenders need? They had 3 last game and couldn't manage a shut out. Even without Ream, Spearing and Medo are probably the two best DM in the game.
Whilst Dougie hasn't made it much easier on himself the buck stops with the players and the players alone. IMO the only thing I blame management for is not dropping Knight sooner and not playing with enough attacking impotence until were in a losing position.

It's one thing putting numbers there it's another thing organising then sufficiently. None of then know what the hell to do on Saturday.
There was no tracking of runners, no ball retention and no organisation. It was shambolic. And I heard it described as throwing darts at a board in order to find something that might work. He was right. That's exactly what it feels like.

Aye I get where you're coming from. Always looks like both players have been told to sit deep yet never have that player up front willing to drop down and collect it. I'm hoping Moritz is that guy but surely the man should be up to scratch fitness wise by now.

And he was happy enough to sign for us after Dougie was saying he was signing him as a right-back. He must be happy to play there.

Re: New Signings
Maybe he's another of those who look better for others than they do for us. Which might be management or myopia. I must confess that I had no real idea about Baptiste before we signed him, but the temptation is to label him another former Beckenbauer turned bobbins by Bolton. It can't be that simple.PC1978 wrote:And he was happy enough to sign for us after Dougie was saying he was signing him as a right-back. We signed that White - 18 and had played first team(?). I think he is sticking Mears in the shop window.General Mannerheim wrote:who is the answer at RB then? Mears?

I would have no qualms with Mesrs/Baptiste/Wheater/Tierney mind.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: New Signings
No secret that he's been offering Mears around, but probably more to make space in the squad/budget than through a lack of faith in Mears - who, as has been noted, payed a fair few games for Dougie last season.officer_dibble wrote:We signed that White - 18 and had played first team(?). Hayden White's 18, which is old enough if you're good enough, but the jury is out. Apparently he's fast - converted winger - but you have to worry that he'd lack a bit of savvy. Mind, some of the best full-backs have been converted wingers, so let's hope for the best rather than fear the worst.
