I think it was just a general comment.

Dear me, that's absolutely shite. I remember there being some brouhaha about it at the time now, but thankfully I've forgotten the attempt.Andy Waller wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=762TbZqLQUg

The one at 0:58 is Thommo, I'm sure it was against Luton. We beat them 6-1 or something. That or Notts County.
I'll check my season review.

Southampton first, won 1-0. i can still remember the Sunday Times match report about us looking like "Premier people".officer_dibble wrote:Reet. Name the goal at 0:58, right footer cutting in from left ...surely not tomo?

Then Coventry - weren't we 2-0 up and then ended 2-2?
Finally Barnsley, and the bubble burst for me - got beat 2-1. I still say one of the biggest mistakes we made that season (second only to the Wednesday away debacle) was thinking that Nathan Blake was an out-and-out striker and pairing him with Beardsley (because he'd worked well with Cole at Newcastle). Blake was always a second striker, strong fast etc, never a natural finisher. With hindsight, Dean Holdsworth was the right signing three months too late. It may have worked with a pre-season between them.

A slightly older mate of mine used to potter about the NW attending music gigs. One night he saw Howard Jones in Stockport and got chatting to him at the bar.
He said Howie was perfectly fine* thanked him for coming and made a note of his address.
Everytime he was in the NW Jones would hand write a letter to my mate, thanking him for his past support and saying 'this is where I'll be performing near you it'd be great to see you at....'
Then one night who should pop up on TotP but the Jonester himself.
THE VERY NEXT DAY a laminated sheet of A4 dropped on my mates doormat with a demand for £25 to join the Official Howard Jones Fan Club.
My mate declined the offer.
Do any other Metro readers have stories about joining/not joining pop starts fan clubs?

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Bryan Ferry once bought me a drink. I bought a round, and feckin Eno didn't buy one back...so I won't be joining Eno's fan club until he buys me that drink he owes me.coffeymagic wrote:A slightly older mate of mine used to potter about the NW attending music gigs. I went to that, Beardsley looked fantastic, got all giddy and thought he and Blake would have a great season together. Hmmmm. Didn't they hammer us 5-1 at the Reebok that season? Can't remember many worse home games than that.boltonboris wrote: Coventry was 2-2, but we were 2-0 down

I remember a friend of mine at the time predicting we'd get smashed by Coventry the week before the game, with them being a form team and all that. To which, I obviously replied "Coventry, are you being f*cking serious?"

Dion Dublin hatrick wasn't it? One of, if not the worst matches at the Reebok.

I was at that Coventry game too. I thought 'this is it now, we'll do alright.' Just shows you eh?
Wasn't there a bust up between the players during that game? I seem to remember Beardo saying he'd never seen anything like Bolton players openly arguing and calling each other during a game.
Team spirit that Sir Douglas would be proud of.
