He's right though. More chance of renewing Eagles' contract if we go up.

In this division, so he should. Very difficult fiscal line to tread...thebish wrote:ahhh... phew - I thought he might have been financially planning for a lower one...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:He's right though. More chance of renewing Eagles' contract if we go up.

Not really new news is it. We've been wanting to clear a lot of them out since the end of last season. Eagles is an odd one. He should be shining as one of the best players in this division, yet seems to be on the long lazy leaving at the end of the season path.

Re: Mears frozen out !!
I get the feeling he's as capable of simply writing someone off as Cptn. Chaos was.
.... & he's reinventing timescales there with the "I already had McNaughton" .... plus he is now minus Tierney and Baptiste hasn't settled as well as he might have ... so his explanation is shite. The real line in there is "he's not what I call a full back" which I don't understand but is at least honest.
N'Gog has made it plain since relegation that he really doesn't fancy it here ... via his agent, each window, various French clubs take an interest.. at least in January we can get a bit for him. Eagles and DF have clearly had a bust up.
Can we assume these were three of the ones he said "can go if they don't want to be here" the week of the transfer deadline and then nothing happened ?

Well, apart from DF bigging Eagles role up pre season, him then not picking him post injury. Often not using him off the bench and, when used, him wandering about aimlessly ... there's then there are the very persistent rumours from the ITK brugade.Enoch wrote:That's a leap of faith. Otherwise, yep ... it may not be true.

Re: Mears frozen out !!
Wasn't Eagles, when not out injured, best described as "disappointing" in his eight games so far? I don't think too many would argue with his deselection, especially considering two of the alternatives scored today.
Had Freedman kept picking an underperforming Eagles he could have been described as being "as bad as Coyle" for having favourites, picking the wrong players, &c. As it is, it looks to me like DF gave a talented player a few chances then pursued alternatives. Criticising him for that is like, but not as bad as, the frankly bizarre attempt to crucify the manager for "chopping and changing" our two most mistake-prone centre-backs out of the XI.

Re: Mears frozen out !!
McNaughton was seriously struggling with what I suspect is a thigh strain towards the end of the game today. I know that we have a break now but maybe young Douglas might have to call up the right back that he's just told can feck off just as soon as he's ready as he doesn't tally with his own idea of what a right back should be.
