Because it was the ultimate betrayal.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Any particular reason that was the watershed, or is that just how it's worked out for personal reasons?Puskas wrote:I haven't been to a match since they sacked Coyle,
Like Judas Iscariot and Jesus. Or Brutus and Julius Caesar.
Coyle would have led us to the promised land, through the medium of ping-pong and David Ngog.
And we betrayed him. We deserve all we get.

Brutus was an honourable man seeking to protect the republic against the threat of tyranny...Puskas wrote:Because it was the ultimate betrayal.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Any particular reason that was the watershed, or is that just how it's worked out for personal reasons?Puskas wrote:I haven't been to a match since they sacked Coyle,

That's a little simplistic Billy! Even by the standards of the time he was a little over-prone to side-swapping, and the republic he was defending was hardly in rude health. JC on the other hand was not too bad by the standards of, well, dictators.

If that was the case, why did he end up being eternally chewed in one of Satan's several mouths, alongside Judas Iscariot and The-Other-One-Who-Stabbed-Caesar-But-Whose-Name-I-Can't-Remember?William the White wrote:

Eh? Answer me that.
You can't, can you?

It was an error of judgement on behalf of the afterlife panel and sheer bad luck. Split vote and final decision via the toss of a coin.Puskas wrote:If that was the case, why did he end up being eternally chewed in one of Satan's several mouths, alongside Judas Iscariot and The-Other-One-Who-Stabbed-Caesar-But-Whose-Name-I-Can't-Remember?William the White wrote:

It was paradise on earth when you think of what followed... The brief reigns of Nero and Caligula are among my favourite ever in the study of human civilisation.Prufrock wrote:That's a little simplistic Billy! David Mitchell did a thing trying to work out why horrible things in history get *funny* once they're aaaaaages ago. The Vikings rapingandpillaging in their funny hats, Nero the nutter with his fiddle, and Caligula and his bloody horse! How funny since we aren't there!

Judas Iscariot was just misunderstood...

We're Bolton Wanderers, we play in white.
That said, I picked "can we talk", but I'd be leaning towards "f*ck off".
Change the name, change the kit, you've changed the club.

I'd find something else to do I think.

Re: Bolton Furies?
Not that I would want it to happen but there's more to the club than just its ending name or kit colour, it wouldn't make me support the club any less.
Re: Bolton Furies?
Is puskas the one who put a pic up of his cat and there was cat shit on the carpet?
Re: Bolton Furies?
Been mulling this one over.
I've watched Gravesend & Northfleet over many years. The club recently changed it's name to Ebbsfleet, securing a sponsorship deal from Eurostar. It then passed to ownership of a website, with a few thousand 'shareholders'. More recently, on the brink of extinction, it has been bought by a Kuwaiti consortium.
Throughout this period, there have been some constants, most notably the supporters and their desire for 'The Fleet' to win. Gates at Stonebridge Road appear more sensitive to fortunes on the pitch than in the boardroom.
Much as I like tradition and continuity, it's unrealistic to imagine things won't change.
Guess I'll always be a Wanderer.

Re: Bolton Furies?
Option 1. I assumed it was a no brainer
If you give em umpteen squillion pounds, change their name & change the colour they play in - then they are no longer the team I support.
If refusing it meant we would drop down divisions, well so what? We've been there before

Re: Bolton Furies?
all this talk of shirt colour... does that mean that when they play away in embarrassingly bright luminous orange - they cease to be the team we support?
here's the kit we (allegedly) started in....

here's the kit we started in if you discount our days as Christ Church:

I can't see those images, but is it the polka dot kit?
Re: Bolton Furies?
People would forget or plain not know we was once Bolton Wanderers years down the line. Therefor no longer associate us with that history.Prufrock wrote:That's the kind of shite Liverpool fans come out with. What does that even mean? How do you 'lose' history. Is it confiscated?
I'd be f*cked off and would probably stop going - not in protest, just in weariness.
Look at MK Dons.. Most people forget / don't even know they use to be Wimbledon.
Due to the fans boycott, even MK Dons give up the history linked to them and now class themselves as a brand new club that was founded in 2004.
