Bizarre, isn't it? Evatt says there are multiple ways to play within the overarching style and the complaint is apparently that he doesn't know there are multiple ways to play within the overarching style.
I'm not really sure there are "any" set ways to play football week for week. You can take a Madrid style game and imitate it, in which case play just like we often (mainly) do up to the halfway line; or try a full frontal assault and risk getting caught out by speedy wingers. Or you could just play a typical less than perfect and see what transpires way. Drawing a map/plan, in advance is a bit like ten year olds excitedly penning the voyage of their predicted journey in "Swallow and Amazons".

As ever, Que Sera and hope for the best is the only way that really works. Worth keeping in mind we're away come Saturday.

If we start against Orient with the 11 from Vale then our non-goalie options for the bench will likely include:

Johnston, Forino, Tutu, Conway, Morley, Matete, Lolos, McAtee, Nlundulu and Charles.

That's without knowing whether some of the injured parties are back available.

Orient away is a tough fixture, but if it goes against us we have the options to change the game now.

Lived in Leyton for a couple of years while at university. Our house was positioned at the end of a one-way street, before a ginnel, which led to the railway. As such, it was an expedient route for yoots to escape the police on foot. We often awoke to drug dealers, who were pleasant enough, sat in our front garden. They left an old pair of TNs on our garden wall as a calling card, dutifully attended by the local population. Our front door was a relative paper partition and we’d, nightly, overhear the crepuscular transactions: “this your gaff, then?”
“May as well be.”

Let’s make that shxthole our gaff tomorrow. Kick them into the Stratfordsphere.

First time since the Steinsson screamer on opening day that I'll not be able to pay full attention to the match. Hopefully I'll be able to get fully settled and find WiFi somewhere to catch it but I'm very doubtful.

This is definitely a game we should be aiming for all three points.

I'd be aiming for all the players from last season with our new LB. New signings seem too soon to chuck straight in there, off the bench they come.

I'm almost more looking forward to seeing the side against Mansfield.

Assuming that Orient will face off against:

Baxter

Toal, Santos, Johnston

JDC, Sheehan, Tomo, Schon

Collins, Charles, Vic

That leaves an awful lot of summer signings needing minutes, that you would expect to start vs Mansfield.

Southwood

Forrester, Forino, Iredale

JOT, Matete, Morley, Conway

Arfield, McAtee, Lolos.

Exciting times.

Evatt accidentally let slip that Schon will start tomorrow - "He'll be surprised by the level of intensity, especially early in the game"
"I've got the ball now. It's a bit worn, but I've got it"

As I typed that, Conway buggered off. Sub in Williams, if fit!

We probably felt able to release Max due to JOT's ability to play down both flanks.

Still leaves us without a back-up RWB in that case, though, unless we're going to show more faith in Matheson or Randell's legs get sent to Lourdes...

I'd be surprised if we didn't see another newbie as the right hand 10 with Dion or Vic on the bench.

I'm fairly confident Collins will play when fit, and will play off the left at 10. He's arguably our best player, that's where he wants to play, and he gets freedom from his favourite starting position.

In terms of exits, if we're driving Dan, Dempsey and Forrester are the two I'd most expect to see. If we're not driving, Vic, Dion or anyone out of contract in the summer.

No, Matheson and Khumbeni will both go on loan too.

It's currently Williams/Schon for the left, with Iredale in a pinch. On the right it's Cogley/Tutu, with Jones in a pinch.

Tutu's versatility meant we could let Max go a bit early, even with Randell not 100% yet.

This is how I'm envisioning it also. Maybe swap out the Conway with nearest youth option and minutes for Khumbeni. Immediate thoughts would be four at the back with Iredale LB in the event of no suitable option for backup CB or LB come midweek fixture.

Evatt has pretty much said Johnston is not ready to start tomorrow. So swap him and Iredale round. Will be surprised if Arfield doesn’t start tomorrow too.

Not sure what difference it makes starting tomorrow instead of Tuesday. Maybe we'll ease him into league fixtures and have him on the bench in both games.

Meaning Iredale, Forino or Forrester will get the nod. Would be surprised if its Forino over the other two

I notice Mansfield won at Barnsley last night: a certain Baccus with an assist.

A pleasingly poor start for them.

It was a good game, to be honest.

Mansfield overwhelmed them early doors. Baccus ran the right channel and Barnsley had now idea how to deal with him. He was unlucky to have on disallowed and should have created another two. Mansfield could have been on 3 or 4 by the time Barnsley got their act together.

Deji Oshilaja was, as always, really good at the back. They've clearly added good quality for this level.

If they go full strength on Tuesday they'll give us a proper game.

Thanks for the write-up—that’s interesting. Tbh, I fancy all three of the promoted sides—particularly Stockport—to cause us problems. Danger from above and below.

Experienced, solid managers with money to spend. Usually means promoted clubs do okay.
