If we had a Lolos or a CMG straining at the leash on the bench, I can imagine some 'rotation' taking place (subs could get half an hour to impress). I'm less sure about starting Demps or Arfield, our current reserve 10s.

I'd be fine starting Dempsey, but I think Collins needs a show of faith from the manager. He was brilliant after January and the fact he's getting used to this system shouldn't see him dropped.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 10:34 amIf we had a Lolos or a CMG straining at the leash on the bench, I can imagine some 'rotation' taking place (subs could get half an hour to impress). I don't think dropping him helps us or the player.

You make a fair point, Ghost, but I’d say it’s generally a good policy to give others a chance when you’ve got lads in poor form.
Collins is probably good enough to merit another start today, but if he throws in another stinker then I’d be starting Arfield or Dempsey next time out.

I generally agree, that the "power" in a well balanced squad is to have genuine competition for places rather than a starter and a young 'un. I think it can be a negative if someone's had a decent 30 minutes and the same fella starts who wasn't at their best. That smacks of "first XI" which we say we don't have. That said, we know Collins is no slouch so I think I'd be inclined to stick with him at the moment, on the grounds that Ghost says - new system etc. Not sure entirely where I'd have been if this game was Huddersfield - think I might have been tempted to start Demps...

Collins on the bench today.

Well you called it. Collins benched. He's definitely not lived up to last season's billing. Definitely a player there so can imagine this is his wake up call of sorts.
Not sure why Toal is notably absent.
Our bench looks considerably weaker now we've got youngsters on the bench:
Southwood, Osei-Tutu, Matheson, Sharples-Ahmed, Matete, Collins, Adeboyejo

Toal is presumably injured.

Toal said it's just a niggle. Nothing serious.
Though I guess he would. He wasn't limping or anything on the way in.

The return of Josh Magennis today.
He scored 6 for us (3 in the league, hat trick in the cup) and 0 against us.
Him scoring today wouldn't go down well. Not that he's overly threatening.

What a ball by Forino! Demps with the miss-kicked cross?

Magennis rolling around like he's just been shot has Santos booked. Unfortunate, but Magennis doing us no favours.
Ref not a Bolton fan today.

Chum at ground says it’s back to 352. Thoughts?

Charles seems to be doing a lot of running on his own so could be 3-6-1.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2024 3:30 pmChum at ground says it’s back to 352. Thoughts?
