Crikey. Who’d want to be a local football journalist? Ever. But particularly at times like this.

Even if the match goes ahead are we gonna see another Bogdan esque goal go in or is it more likely that we see a Zenit esque Plymouth goal.
Either way I hope it goes ahead. As for people travelling down. Maybe give it a miss if its red weather warnings. Players can always get there the day before I wouldve thought

Emergency messages are going out from government to people in affected areas including Bristol. I don’t think playing a game of football is a priority. Game should have been called off already.Mar wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 7:14 pmEven if the match goes ahead are we gonna see another Bogdan esque goal go in or is it more likely that we see a Zenit esque Plymouth goal.

Fans will travel regardless and it’s really not worth the risk to keep the game on.

We've had a red alert on the mobiles down here and the weather forecast at work is not the best.
edit: Forecast has changed, wind is expected to continue gusting upto 50mph with the rain stopping around 11am.
It's not pretty out west at the minute and it's not even started yet.

7.30am inspection called, but no update given since. There will be be lots of angry Wanderers if they leave it much longer before calling off.

Ah, they just called it off!
Best find something else to do with your afternoon, lads and lasses.

Theoretically we could try to rearrange this for Tue 17 Dec - both teams are free that midweek - but with us visiting Wycombe on Fri 20 we're unlikely to push for it. Can't play on Sat 12 Jan (FA Cup Third Round day) as Rovers are still in it, but could play the midweek before or after that.
Aye, within five days next week Evatt hosts Mike Duff and then Wigan Athletic. "Alexa, vanquish my demons."TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 10:19 amit's the Vertu Trophy and a homer v Huddesrfield on Tuesday....

Huddersfield’s a free hit really. I think there’s a fair few who would be happy to be out of that. I’d forgotten about it!
For me anything but a win, ideally a convincing one, v Wigan and that should be that, it really should.

Absolutely crazy that they didn’t call this off yesterday once emergency alerts went out. I mean some travelled yesterday. Regardless of safety at the ground the situation should have caused an instant postponement yesterday evening as asking people to travel in this for a football match is just too risky.
Re: Pirates, but not of the Carribean. Away to Bristol, Sat 7th Dec, 3-0 clock
Ridiculous that this has been cancelled.
They should be playing in all sorts of weather. Who cares if the ball is whipping up in a tornado and goes backwards off every goal kick. It just adds to the excitement. As for roof tiles falling off, those are just extra challenges all players must face from time to time. I remember watching the Chinese play football in Shaolin in far worse conditions where some moves the ball was on fire and they had to control the air to save it. If they can do it then so can we.
Kidding of course. I echo BWFC_Insane's sentiments around calling it off earlier. There's no reason to have this being played if it's going to put peoples lives at risk. We very rarely get a red weather warning announced and when it is we should be taking appropriate measures.
There may have been people setting off earlier than 8 am this morning, but hopefully only a few were affected.

Beyond a red weather alert - the government saw fit to use the emergency alert system to people in the Bristol area. That was at 6.45pm. Yesterday. At that point to not instantly call it off is ridiculous and reflects very poorly on Bristol Rovers for me.Mar wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 12:17 pmRidiculous that this has been cancelled.

Surprised the police didn't tell them to cancel on safety grounds.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 12:43 pmBeyond a red weather alert - the government saw fit to use the emergency alert system to people in the Bristol area. It was forecast so it's not like they didn't know. Cardiff and Plymouth both had their games cancelled last night.
This was around 5.30am this morning as it was picking up.
The wind dial at work was showing this, the speeds are knots.
It only got worse(70kts), and the winds are still on a par with this now, just less rain.

Gonna stick Brum, Wrexham or Wycombe game on the couch if anyone fancies it.
Let me know if you have a preference.

Brum at Barnsley is interesting either way... Wrexham at Burton sounds like a punishment.
