"...and you can shove Lindum away up your Colonia!" - Lincoln away (EFL Trophy) Tuesday 14th Jan 2025 7pm

If the manager wants to take a risk on getting a very good player on our books who have significant records of injuries, he really should not complain about injury problems
No, he shouldn't.

Also the usual rule for being willing to carry a sicknote player is if they are exceptional when fit.

Ledley King at Spurs, for example, was a world class defender when his knees weren't swollen up like Balloons. Bradley Dack made a huge difference for Blackburn when he was fit. Keiron Lee for us.

We have a lot of lads who are often injured and then come back in and don't particularly improve us. Nothing wrong with them as players, but not the sort you'd say "He's worth the risk."

I mean we've got lads on the bench now not playing in case they break. Bonkers

Yeah.

I mean it's normal to slowly reintegrate players after some injuries, especially surgical interventions or hammies.

But I can't say I'm looking at Tutu and thinking "He's definitely fine now."

Every time he falls over I'm going to wince.

On the other side you have Baxter, who is clearly a very good player and a crock - but we've mostly won that battle. If we'd had proper cover, as we said when we signed him (and hoped the god Coleman would work out), then who knows?

Keepers don't have to run around a lot, though.

Don't get it.
Because you always insist on ignoring everything that gets said around "spending matters."

It's not "just spending" and nobody has ever said it is. It certainly isn't "One season's budget vs that season's performance every time"...

I can't be arsed doing this again.
So I don't see how you're working out we've "overperformed."

The way we were building the Club was one that gives us advantages (as you say over and above purely monetary). But if I just reflect on that for a moment, I'd expect us with our budget to finish maybe 3rd/4th as we did last season. Then you add the upsides of our "better than most Club's strategy" and you just about crawl into 2nd, which we could've done, but didn't. It feels to me overall that we're performing around expectations (until this season), but I'm not noting outperforming, which is supposed to be the upside benefit of "everything else" that isn't money.

Well sod it. I'm keen on this one.

All the negativity around the club and this is a game that doesn't make a blind bit of difference to our season goals, but may just be the game that saves our season.

The further we go in the cup, the more we've got to look forward to at the end of the season.

Lose this and the season's a complete write off. Win this and at least it's something to cling to.

It would be embarrassing if we got to the final in this. Despite our 30,000 plus followings for both the Plymouth Pizza cup & the Oxford play off final - if Evatt is still in charge we would be lucky if 15,000 went down for this.

I know that he can't say anything else to upset his mate, but Atherton's presser was just more of the same bollocks - we can only play one way, caught on transitions etc. The fact is this management team is shot, its done the fans don't want them - any of them. The fans hate Evatt's brand of sideways & backwards boring football and I think that the players do to.

Not quite. I'm very much disenfranchised by Evatt's team at the moment, not necessarily by the type of football (when it works its good), but by the effort levels and the whole feeling around the club.

When we look back at the season, i'd much rather reflect on us getting as far as we can in this than bowing out in order to make our football schedule easier. Even if it ends up being 15k at Wembley, it'd be a far better outcome than we just finished the season out of the playoffs and out of the cups.

Good on ya Mar. The Rotherham game killed off the last glimmer of hope I had of this season ending positively and apathy has now fully set in for me.

I will probably still watch for want of anything better to do but I'm not bothered about the result. Hopefully Sharples-Ahmed gets some more minutes as he played well against Fleetwood back in November.

I feel like Evatt might go very strong for this, Brommers.

Personally I’m hoping we can get a National League loan for SSA, as I don’t think he gets minutes with us now Morley’s back.

It's a football match that Bolton Wanderers are playing in. I want Bolton Wanderers to win. I can make it, so I'm going.

Ever thus.

Agreed, can't seem him rotating too much. He'll field as strong a lineup as possible to keep his 50% win ratio intact :D

That'll be like clinging on to that soft, warm dog turd you've just picked up on a freezing cold day. It's a tiny positive, but not one you're going to cherish for long.

Much prefer picking up warm dogshit to cold dogshit.

Anyway, I'll watch and hope we win. As ever with these games you hope (rather than expect) the fringe players make their case. Might be the last time we see one or two players... but I'd be surprised if SSA starts, rather than gets 4 minutes at the end.

Maybe my positivity stems from the chance of going to Wembley for a win. I was at a Wedding on the weekend when we won it so I didn't manage to see us win in person at Wembley. I'm 0 for 3 at big stadiums, so it's probably best I missed it given my current jinx.

Still, i'd like us to have a repeat of that outing and the only way we're going to get that will be from going far in this tournament.
