Just heard clip of Thomason being interviewed.
‘New manager coming in could be exciting. Could be what we as players need’.
Hmmm. Whilst you aren’t going to say ‘ughh don’t want a new guy here’ it potentially is a revealing choice of words.

I was questioning my sanity when I bought tickets for this the other week but now, I'm quite looking forward to it. Still expecting a hammering tbh but a chance to show our support and appreciation for Jules.
I can think of at least 1 Darby goal v Huddersfield. The 2nd in a 2-0 home win in Bruce Rioch's first game in charge. Hopefully a positive sign!

Just watched Jules’ interview on the clubs YouTube. Wow. This is our club back. Proper man. Understands it. Understands what Bolton is. Knows he’s not going to get the gig but that doesn’t matter.
No ego. And for me the best thing is ‘we’re massive underdogs but I love being an underdog’. That’s Bolton. The spirit of the last 50 years. It’s what Evatt never got for me. All the big I ams and best team in the league stuff was contrary to what we should be. Scrappy, punchy, awkward.
It’s a huge relief to see someone talk about us and the club and a game without it making me itch. Win lose or draw Saturday he and the other two coaches should be applauded all the way by the fans there.

I too was struck by the "I like being an underdog" line. Bit of a tone change from nearly five years of the fans singing "Bolton are massive everywhere we go", making memes about "HMS Piss the League" and posting that we shoudl be better than League One.

There's a balance. In context of the weekend's game it's ok, although if we still harbour top 6, then probably by not a lot...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 12:08 pmI too was struck by the "I like being an underdog" line. Oh indeed. I think we're one of the bigger fish in this division, but we've often lacked humility about it.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 1:02 pmThere's a balance. Fans will rightly expect Bolton to rise out of league one. I think that’s a bit different to the atmosphere that was created, maybe by accident that did seem to build up players to a swagger before they’d earned anything.

Matete won’t be playing tomorrow. Three game ban for the stamp given by the FA. Rightly so.

Matete hasn’t appealed so he will miss Hudds, Northampton and Reading. At least one of those may be under a new manager, so he’s picked a bad time to sit down.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 2:08 pmMatete won’t be playing tomorrow. Three game ban for the stamp given by the FA. Rightly so.

His teammates won't be too happy with him either. Delayed the game when we were desperate for an equaliser (as unlikely as it was) and now banned for 3 games when the gaffer has been binned.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 2:19 pmMatete hasn’t appealed so he will miss Hudds, Northampton and Reading. I'm still not having it was a stamp! But no complaint at the ban. Knew what he was doing.

Disappointing that he's suspended, but he's a sub now anyway, with Morley and Sheehan back in the fold.

^This. Silly and petulant, but a gesture rather than assault. A totally daft thing to do. Their gaffer will be delighted as he's been squawking Angels and Demons ever since.

That fact alone makes it that bit more moronic. He finds himself out of favour and then when given an opportunity does that.

Mightve been a deliberate way of getting out of playing for Evatt. It was stupid. You hear the stories in the podcasts around. Especially daft with given the manager getting gone.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 7:21 pmboltonboris wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2025 3:51 pmDisappointing that he's suspended, but he's a sub now anyway, with Morley and Sheehan back in the fold.

I've liked his performances but then to come back and do that just shows it was seemingly the right call

There’s some intrigue regarding the three musketeers team selection, but I’m guessing they won’t deviate too much from Evatt’s blueprint. I’d guess whoever the new bloke is will shake things up more.
I’d go:
Southwood
Forrester Toal Irish kid
Sheehan Morley
Tutu Randall Schön
Vic Collins

What a complete breath of fresh air this is.
Listen, everything in life isn’t all sweet and rosy,” he told The Bolton News. “You're going to have the times when things are stacked against you and your mental strength has to come through.
“Did I have a bad time back then? Yes, I did. Was I playing well? No, I wasn't really, no. But back then Phil Neal saw something in me, and he kept playing me and playing me. Was it hard? Yeah, it was that year. It was really hard.
“I'm so pleased that there was no social media then. There were just letters in the Bolton Evening News which Gordon Sharrock used to put in!
“Times have changed but you have to get on with it. You still need mental strength, you have to think right, prove them wrong.
“Maybe then we’ll get some good letters in the paper?”

Julian Darby’s Super White Army!
I’m excited for this one now, despite there surely being a significant risk of receiving another shellacking.
