For me Gary Neville with an experienced proven older assistant manager

Do you think he's a prick.snowbowl wrote:Personally don't like Benitez
I think I do.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Not against anyone. Just beware the promising young coach who hasn't done all that much yet or been properly tested....thebish wrote:i think it's cos he is a bit of a shortarse and will fit that wardrobe full of suits we bought for LSL...BWFC_Insane wrote:Hmm. you against Solskjaer now as well?
Just wary after Coyle, as we all thought he'd do the job....

Sounds all a bit McFarland/Toddthebish wrote:what makes people think we can afford to employ TWO managers all of a sudden???Peter Thompson wrote:For me Gary Neville with an experienced proven older assistant manager
Neville needs to cut his teeth somewhere - this is a big job, tight budget, flat players who have lacked direction for 18 months (no coincidence Spearing and Warnock have been our better players having not suffered a TeamCoyle pre season), feck all confidence and points...and yet a need to go up.
Right appointment we can still get promoted.
Decent appointment we could hit the play offs.
Poor appointment, doesn't bear thinking about (hello Leeds).
I voted Keith Hill. I think he might do well. I wanted Coyle though. Whoever Gartside picks gets my backing for the season, but Gartside has to get this right. Really I'm not sure who, but I'm looking forward to seeing who it is...
but not Roy Keane. He's mental.

Solskjaer and Neville as assistant, bold move and more than likely very unrealistic but would be interesting

Having said that, he would probably be expensive - I imagine the Urinals Reserves boss's pay packet is well above plenty of Championship First Team managers.
Also, I am not sure if the cosy pampered world of Stretford is a good testing ground for the rufty-tufty / roughty-toughty (sp? Dan - help me out on this one) world of the Championship.
So actually, in writing this post, I may have talked myself out of it. But I would say that if he's affordable, he might be worth a punt.
Thinking aloud, given the position we're in, it would be a bit of a surprise if we went up this season and I'm fairly sure we won't go down - we've been crap for most of the season so far and we're still not (quite) in the relegation zone. Therefore, maybe we can afford to have a bit of a punt on someone "interesting".
Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
Di Canio and Keane are big no-nos for me. Both tapped. I get the work-hard, ambitious, discipline, but I think you can do it without being nuts. Also, I think we have the players to do well, and so a mass clear-out of disgruntled players in January is the last thing we need. I also fear that kind of manager would take one look at Chris Eagles and decide he didn't want him. He might be all hair gel and terrible cars, but he has been our stand out player, works hard, ran himself to death against Leeds. They might look like pre-Madonnas (I read that once, and think it is better than the original) but it doesn't mean they are.
Just because Coyle was young and promising and turned out shit doesn't mean everyone is. Why do you think Norwich hired Lambert, Swansea Rodgers, Southampton Adkins Everton Moyes us Allardyce.
I certainly don't want a proven failure. We know they are shit. Bit harsh to lump McCarthy into that I think, but, despite thinking he is an ace guy, I wouldn't want him here. This is the guy who thought the best way to keep Wolves up was not playing Jarvis and Fletcher.
I hope we cast the net wide. I'd want to seriously talk to Soslkjaer, Hill, I think Nevill too (he seems the sort who could be a great manager, Keane without the crazy, but having noting to actually base that on other than personality and that he sounds like he gets football more than Alan Shearer (who knew- Blackburn's next manager PLEASE)) and anybody else who can show ambition, attention to detail, work ethic and leadership. I'd prefer someone to get it on the deck, not for any moral reason, rather I think it's the best way to win games if you have good players, but that wouldn't be essential.

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
The jungle drums seem to be suggesting McCarthy. I'd be happy enough with that. He's got teams promoted often enough but rarely had any financial backing to keep them up. He has also signed and sold well on the whole and is likeably honest and clearly knows how to foster a good team spirit. I'm not sure in the circumstances that Gartside will be making any wildcard appointments.First priority is to get up while we still have some money and McCarthy is a good bet to achieve that. Getting established again may be very difficult whoever comes in.We're not in the sort of position of a middling team like swansea were when they kept appointing managers to develop an ethos. There isnt time for a long steady development under a new coach.because we have some weighty contracts still and to some degree an expectation amongst fans that we should be heading straight back up.

Roah, Sammy-sammy
sammy-sammy-sammy
Sammy Allardyce - he's right under out nose
if he won't come ask him where he got all those good players from (and can we have our captain back)
all else fails Roy Keane, maybe Micky Mellons - you dare not fail with a name like Mellons!

Re: Now he's gone, who's next?
I can see the appeal but it seems unlikely on so many levels. I'd imagine Neville has long term ambitions but wants the experience with Hodgson and England for a while yet. Ole Gunnar well maybe but short on experience and not managing at a high level.Inexperience means risk and I dont think Gartside will be taking risks. It would be brilliant to bring someone in as a number two with real long term potential though but most managers would feel threatened by such an arrangement naturally hence they generally pick their own nonthreatning staff in.Il Pirate wrote:Relentless09 wrote:Solskjaer and Neville as assistant, bold move and more than likely very unrealistic but would be interesting

Seriously? Not sure I could cope with a scottish former striker managing us again! Coach though, I could see that going down well.officer_dibble wrote:John mcginlay has just tweeted he is quitting cincinati and returning to england...
