Last night's scores from the BN, David Pye is clearly a generous man.
Wanderers: Lonergan 7, McNaughton 7, Knight 7, Mills 8, Ream 8; Moritz 8 (Ngog 59, 5), Kamara 6 (Mason 75, 6), Spearing 6, Hall 7 (Chung-Yong 56, 6); Danns 7, Beckford 6. Subs not used: Baptiste, Wheater, Pratley, Lee-Barratt.
Unless he's talking about the fans, who apparently were 'whining'.

Couldn't drag myself into the cold and drive the 70 mile round trip last night and glad i didn't. What is becoming clear is that we have no plan b and that Plan A is consistently not working. DF seems to want to control matches in the first half and keep things tight. This has reduced the number we are conceding, but 451 at home is proving again and again to be an appalling mistake. The depressing thing is, I can't see him changing the way we play and lack of ambition will see us with a mid table finish.
With crowds of 15000 or less and the budget we have, perhaps this is the new reality we have to face.

Re: Don't Terrier self up about it - Huddersfield Thread
I don't see why it needs to be the reality. The crowd was significantly less than 15000 by the end and those early leavers will just stop coming.
Bring someone in who isn't depressingly negative, have a go and I'll not mind as much if we don't win.

Things is a1. Coyle's football was turgid too. Only difference is Coyle got a reputation for playing Barca football on the back of about 4 games when Mavies and Holden were fit and Elmander remembered he was a half decent footballer.

Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham
Re: Don't Terrier self up about it - Huddersfield Thread
Exactly AT, the myth of Coyle's passing game. I'm not talking about employing some gung-ho bellend, I'm talking about someone who isn't totally fecking dull and who doesn't treat Huddersfield and Millwall like AC Milan and Barcelona in terms of playing scared.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Things is a1. Are you happy with the football being played A1? Ignore results for a minute.

I knew this was a poorly constructed topic, said it straight off.

Not sure I agree entirely Norm. There are teams with less spending power than us, putting up a better fight of it this season. So I'm not sure it has to be this way.norm the jedi wrote:This.... is who we are for the forseeable..Bijou Bob wrote:

Its a good job he's doing such sterling work behind the scenes, because on the surface it looks like he's a clueless chancer who's winging it at football management. Absolutely dreadful, disorganised mess last night.
And fair play to those who can see a clear masterplan. They're clearly much smarter than me, because, to me, we looked slow, uncoached, disinterested, second best. And we're back to 19th.

Indeed, it's like folk think there is some sort of unshakeable destiny going on. Presumably, our best bet would be to get relegated again, and then go up twice in a row. A year behind Wolves.

Re: Don't Terrier self up about it - Huddersfield Thread
Not destiny as such just the circle of life really, the history of this club would suggest a down period whether that bottoms out here or a division below or a division below that who knows ?for now we're a mediocre team in a mediocre league where about 10 points covers the spread of about 16 teams? And anyone can beat anyone else without apparent rhyme or reason week in week out. I don't think we'll go up, or down... And having looked at football with passion, dispassion and now increasing cynicism I can't understand why on the basis of performance over an ever increasing period anyone imagines we could even be in sniffing range of getting back to the heights of Hiero, Campo, jay jay, et al god I'd take Henrik Pedestrian now at 43 or whatever age he is... Premier league is a foreign country and our passport ran out....Prufrock wrote:Worthy4England wrote:Not sure I agree entirely Norm. One final point. Zat Knight was our best player by a country mile, both front and back. Mostly because, whatever is supposed to have happened, we're still lumping it long to the front man, bypassing our (utterly decrepit) midfield entirely.

I guess the point I'm making Norm, is that the year we got relegated (and Coyle was right in that there are some fine margins), we were a long way from being the 18th on the wage bill ladder in the Prem. Maybe a long way from Hierro, Campo, Jay Jay etc. but compared to other clubs the season we went down, we had plenty, 14th highest wage bill in the Prem.

Last season, I suspect we were still in the top 4/5 in the Championship, if not higher. This season I suspect we're probably not far off that - maybe a couple of places down.
Which ever way you look at it, both Coyle and Freedman were/are underperforming against the amount of wage bill at their disposal. Yes it takes a while to filter out high paid players you're not going to use - especially if they're on long term Contracts that they'd rather run down than lose, but we've signed quite a lot of players under Freedman including loanees, and current performance isn't reflecting the investment he's getting
