I'm not really convinced anyone is that sad
.
There's an obvious gimme at SF at this point, but you know, play the ball not the man!
I think some people are invested in us playing certain systems and so they post more after a good result with that system and less at other times. That's a fair way away from wanting us to lose though!

Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

If Bish were around, I'd bet he could find a quote from someone wishing us to lose.Prufrock wrote:I'm not really convinced anyone is that sad.

*cough* It isn't if you win or lose, it's how you play the game. *cough*
Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.

Re: Ram it up 'em?! - Derby (A) 11/3/14
On a playing field that's so unlevel some teams are in danger of sliding right off it in terms of finances, location, popularity and all things generally in view (who would think anything devious might go on under the table?), surely methods are way behind the main objective: results. Way I see it we've more building to do than Seddons right now.
Everybody talks of systems, 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 4-3-3 etc, etc, who should play, and how they should play. Some say they'll even accept losing if we show effort and spirit doing it. What really matters most, any of those things or a scrappy win and three points regardless of how they're achieved? I, like a lot of others am delighted to see us scoring goals by going for it. I'm also realist enought to know that what you can do against Breightmet United, you might not be able to do against Manchester United. That's where the unlevel bit comes in. We're where we are because of circumstances mainly beyond our control. We have to play some teams who are quite frankly, better then us. It isn't always due to the players or the manager but the result achieved, luckily or however that may be. I really don't envy anybody in charge at the Reebok right now. The ultimate aim would be promotion back to the Premiership; what would happen if we got it? Any money gained from the Sky's and sponsors etc would surely go to paying off a chunk of our debt rather than be spent on players. We'd surely be left struggling in the same fashion that sent us down here in the first place.
Our only real chance is grinding out results to make sure we at least get a chance to stop the slide and give ourselves some breathing space and time to rebuild. Eleven points from five games is surely preferable to
doing a 300 and having glorious words engraved on our memorial statue. Not getting scored against much is at least heartening as a start point. I'm not daft enough to say Dougie's saved the day, but if he carries on in this fashion he'll do for me. Not a popular view I imagine, but there you go.. When thinking on these lines, somehow the City woodwork-hitting fandango always comes to mind....you just never know your luck

It's possible it's just me, and nobody else has this thing, but I have a distinct opinion when not at a match that sometimes differs considerably to the one I hold when at a match. The opinions I hold when not at the match are largely logical and about how many points we've got/can get, whereas those when at the match are largely visceral and determined by how entertaining it is. Ideally both sets of opinions should not differ, but sometimes, like this match, they do.TANGODANCER wrote:On a playing field that's so unlevel some teams are in danger of sliding right off it in terms of finances, location, popularity and all things generally in view (who would think anything devious might go on under the table?), surely methods are way behind the main objective: results. Nah, not just you. Makes sense, but what's sense got to do with football.Lost Leopard Spot wrote: It's possible it's just me, and nobody else has this thing, but I have a distinct opinion when not at a match that sometimes differs considerably to the one I hold when at a match. There is truth in that, though I'd say a scrappy 1-0 or backs to the wall 0-0 can seem better when you're watching than when you're listening. In that if you've sat through 90 minutes and watched your team bravely get a point or three you sometimes after the event feel they've played better than they actually did.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:It's possible it's just me, and nobody else has this thing, but I have a distinct opinion when not at a match that sometimes differs considerably to the one I hold when at a match. Supporting any team makes you see things through a certain lens. When you're losing often, you simply can't see any redeeming features and when you're winning you perhaps over-inflate your teams qualities?

Poor Dan. I enjoyed reading his verbatim conversations. Wonder which shithole he ended up in?
