It is. But a manager has to be careful, as his quotes get airlifted from context to headline. Freedman chose the wrong time for an honest joke when he was leadingly asked if his players were good enough.thebish wrote:i think it is possible to call for an injection of quality and NOT demotivate everyone else - at least, it should be possible for a good (man)manager...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

that's true enough...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:It is. But a manager has to be careful, as his quotes get airlifted from context to headline. I was really just thinking of that reported recent quote where lennon says summat like "we need a striker right now... etc." I think that's fair enough - and if it demotivates our current strikers - then would we really notice the difference??

Re: No Nonsense... 'Uddersfield (A) 19/Sep/15
But shouldn't saying we need a new striker motivate our current strikers to do better and prove to the gaffer that they've got what it takes?
Re: No Nonsense... 'Uddersfield (A) 19/Sep/15
Yes it should but not to those with an axe to grind.Jugs wrote:But shouldn't saying we need a new striker motivate our current strikers to do better and prove to the gaffer that they've got what it takes?

like I said - I think what he said is fair enough!

if Madine isn't motivated now - then it's time to move on if we can and bugger upsetting him!

I'm not referring to any interest payments of owt he obviously gets feck all out of usBWFC_Insane wrote:How on earth do you know that he gets wealthier? If you are privy to Eddie Davies assets then fine, but I hope you aren't referring to interest on his investments which is and hasn't been paid for a considerable time. How much readily available cash do you think he has?boltonboris wrote:It's not because he's running out of cash. He gets wealthier by the week regardless.
Look, I get that it's his money and he can do whatever the feck he wants with it, but it's just making me think the we he's dried it up is cuntish behaviour
But he's very good at making people like you believe he's not as wealthy as he is

My only qualm with ED is that he played poker and lost his nerve at exactly the wrong moment. Premier incomes (via TV deals) have boomed twice since he folded.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I suspect it might not be entirely in his power.bobo the clown wrote:My only qualm with ED is that he played poker and lost his nerve at exactly the wrong moment. Premier incomes (via TV deals) have boomed twice since he folded.
In terms of signings I didn't expect Lennon to be able to directly replace the quality of Le Fondre.
But I didn't expect us to have worse options than Craig Davies. Which is what we've ended up with. And Craig Davies was on 5 grand a week. And none of the three Lennon has signed are offering what he could. And yes he got a couple of injuries last season. But his career hasn't been blighted that much. Perhaps last season was his body wearing down. Fine but still to not have found anyone as good is not great given he was bargain basement when signed himself.

Not sure that's true. The rise that occurred the year we went down, was known about, I think, prior to us getting relegated. I'm fairly sure if he had money to dump in and he thought there was any chance of getting a return on it, he's probably savvy enough to spot that. As it happens, there's been significant rises previously for all the good they fid the balance sheet.bobo the clown wrote:My only qualm with ED is that he played poker and lost his nerve at exactly the wrong moment. @Boris - don't think anyone is suggesting he'll be drawing JSA anytime soon. In the 80's had you told me Bolton would play in Europe in my lifetime, I'd have thought you completely hatstand.

It's good having memories of what we did in the past, but I'm sure if you talked to a lot of other club's fans, they will have good memories of their club in the past....but we can't live in the past, we have to think of the club and their plight as of this moment in time and it's not looking good from where I see it....And we might only have memories and no future if this carries on

Fair comment bobo. But ED ( and his wife), have so many other interests. I spent a nice day the other week looking at some of his rare Japanese porcelain collection at the Roman Museum, Brading. On loan from the V&A, it's a tiny part of ED's art collection.
I'm sure a lot of his philanthropy affords tax breaks etc. But when it comes to pouring more money into the endless money pit which is BWFC, I for one can't blame him for saying enough is enough. F4ck a striker, I'm going to buy myself a Giacometti instead.

Errr...I think you'll find that Craig Davies has done his hamstring again and is out for at least a few weeksBWFC_Insane wrote:I suspect it might not be entirely in his power.bobo the clown wrote:My only qualm with ED is that he played poker and lost his nerve at exactly the wrong moment. ^^ agreed Bluebeard bit I just think he panicked a tiny bit early.
& Worthy, understood and it was Alan Sugar who said every TV money hike simply meant even more money in players possible keys and even bigger debts. I think he may have been right.but ....& we'll never know ....I do feel another year would have helped greatly.
