It was a good effort that's about all you can say to that. Oh and incredible support. Really amazing.
That kind of effort, a decent formation, something like... get rid of the dross, Lolos, adeboyejo, many others, become hard to beat, make chances for Charles. Could be something there with a decent manager, but it won't happen. A good manager could walk this league it really is utterly shite from top to bottom including us. Sick of hearing it's a really competitive league it's not, it never has been, it's utterly shite and we've been tricked into thinking this is an acceptable level to fail at.
Today we could have had Morley in for Lolos, and Charles in for Adeboyejo and 2M in the bank. But the feck* in charge decided that wasn't what he wanted so...

Yeah agreed. And disappointing it took Santos and Johnston being out for others to dig in. Be a shame if forester is dropped next time out. He could play with Toal as two centre halves in a back 4.
You would think a rejuvenated Morley gets a chance in that midfield as well - Lolos was pretty non existent last night and signing wise looks a bust.
I see the Wycombe manager made the point his squad cost less than ours yet they were the better side, which is probably true. W e have to sell someone in Jan I think.

Only caught the 2nd half but I was fairly pleased with what I saw. Our passing was poor but we were quick in the tackle, got men back when necessary and I felt fairly comfortable. If only Geth had connected properly or George's attempt swerved any and it would have been a great last minute win.
Still, we bucked the trend at last and took something away from home against one of the leading pack.

To an extent. We kept a clean sheet, and that's a very welcome change in the games against top-six teams. Of the current top six (aware it might change within the hour) we've played 5, D2, L3, F0 A11. Zero goals scored.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 1:09 pmStill, we bucked the trend at last and took something away from home against one of the leading pack.
At least last season we scored some goals in the big home games, but we were still relatively toothless away. We didn't score at fellow top-sixers Pompey, Derby or Oxford; we did bag 2 at Barnsley and 3 in a last-day anticlimax at Posh – but still didn't win.
I know last night's game was a tall order and I'm glad we didn't concede. But I'm still not seeing much uptick in the "scoring against our direct opponents" metric. And while I'd dearly love to be wrong, I'm not confident it will happen, given we still have to go to travel to prise open defences organised by Parkinson and Duff.

We can do very well in this division if we stick to the basics. We look so much more solid without Sheehan and Santos trying to play it out. With no pressure press we are fine, with pressure we look awful. No personal disrespect to them as they are carrying out the managers style of play that he wants, but we concede to many goals playing this way. Good God, if we just play tough and quickly forward instead of this slow style, we look so much more solid like yesterday. Look where Wycombe and Wrexham are in the table. They are no great shakes with the ball but are hard to score against. Evatt was forced to play like this yesterday because of suspension and injury. He has seen the clean sheet. What will he do when Santos and Sheehan are back?

I'd agree with the majority of this. Santos and Sheehan are really good at dribbling with the ball and it should be an option, but not THE option. As you said we looked more solid with the basics and I think we just need to do more of that. Any pressure we're under defensively, just get rid and win it further up the pitch. No nonsense at the back, but plenty of trickery in the final third.irie Cee Bee wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 2:55 pmWe can do very well in this division if we stick to the basics. I like it when we pass to each other. Didn't see much last night. By all means cut out the dithering - makes it more likely we get a zero against - but we also need far more accuracy than we saw last night or we'll rack up a few more zeros for.

A decent, dogged performance. Can see why they’re up there, as they’re very street smart. Every trick in the book and very quickly get back into their defensive shape. Good result really, but can’t help but feel a little gutted we didn’t get a win in the end

Yes indeed. I had a cheeky smile on my face, even though annoyed, the many tines they tricked the ref by initiating contact with our players then going down as if shot. Football smarts indeed which we dont have, save for Charles. But he need to watch how the Wycombe payers do it to perfect the art.boltonboris wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 4:23 pmA decent, dogged performance.
