Yeah. Meanwhile, back on planet earth, we'll sign some players probably. Maybe. Maybe not.
Where's my fee. Uncanny, isn't it?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Freedman on reports he bid for that trialist.
Funnily enough that was pretty much exactly what Nixon said in response to the reports. And Iles.“I think they must think I have found some money under my bed,” the manager said. “We haven’t made a bid and wouldn’t be doing so at that price.”
But obviously they just make it up......
No money.
Even our local journalist who probably resents the facts that all his stories are out out on Nixons twitter in advance of his paper has acknowledged that Nixon is a reliable source of info with close links to 'the club'.
I don't particularly care but he's got everything right again this summer as far as I can see.

Yeah but Nixon gets all his exclusive stories about Bolton from Owen Coyle because they're mates.BWFC_Insane wrote:He doesn't get paid for twitter. And his accuracy is uncanny. It seems strange that anyone is surprised that the longer you stay in the Championship, as the parachute payments run out, the less money you have to spend. So not only are the days of spending millions on Elmander over, but so too are the days of spending £2m on Jay Spearing.
Unfortunately we've spent the better part of the last two seasons dismissing bad results because we were putting in place a longer term plan with Dougie. Now we're at the stage where that should start playing dividends and he's moaning that the money has run out. You'd think he'd have planned for that.

Perhaps, Eddie doesn't care how we perform so long as it doesn't cost him anymore money?Tombwfc wrote:It seems strange that anyone is surprised that the longer you stay in the Championship, as the parachute payments run out, the less money you have to spend. Perhaps that has been the case for a while.
Lets face it the squad has been re-modelled in the past two years on a virtual shoestring. Yes money was spent on Spearing and a couple of others but given the numbers that have gone and come in and the severe reduction in wage bill the austerity program certain seems to have taken precedence over worrying about results on the pitch.

What a strange thing to say. Why would it make any business sense for ED to think that, notwithstanding the emotional angle.
BWFC have understandably always tried to achieve on a shoestring. You never know perhaps ED believed and trusted the snake oil managers (and bookies and fans) who said we had enough to get back to PL. Perhaps ED wants to put more in and frustrated by FFP. Who knows
In terms of the wage bill, the view of many seems to now be that many of the high earners weren't any good anyway and not worth their salary. It therefore figures that there are lots of other guys out there who are cheaper but just as good. So quite why a reduced wage bill should equate to giving up or not worrying about results is a mystery.
I've not seen any evidence that DF has been forced to sell and indeed it seems to have been his own judgement call on those players, as he has left a lot of them on the training ground whilst they are still paid PL wages

In terms of business sense - I'm not sure what would make business sense. Spend money to chase the premiership again to make the club more attractive to a buyer? But nobody wanted us in the premiership. I'm convinced that Eddie is somehow looking for a way out via a buy out.StaffsTrotter wrote: What a strange thing to say. Then you have the development plans for around the ground....perhaps Eddie feels the club is more likely to be sold via making the off the field package more attractive rather than worrying about the football side.
I don't know. Not saying it is the case, but there is certainly a lack of clarity from the club imo....

Re: Abdoulaye's going t'Souk transfer thread
I now understand a bit more why we lost Juke. We did not bid because we simply did not have the money as is being said. Whats new? But in my view we intended to bid. I wondered what was meant by the timing not being right, but I now understand.
We needed to sell Lee who is in his last year for a fee (1.5M) and move out Andrews (wages)before we could move on Juke. These have not yet happened so we could not bid on Juke who could not wait any longer with a firm offer on the table from a PL side.
Clear as day to me now. Hopefully we can find someone who fits the bill after those deals are completed.

No-one remotely promising on that list. I accept I might have to lump it, but I don't have to like it!

I think you're right in that we needed to sell. I can't see anyone buying Lee for that sort of money though.irie Cee Bee wrote:I know understand a bit more why we lost Juke. Where is Boggers? Not seen him even on the bench for the pre season games. Injured? Or on the way out?
I know a French club enquired and Fulham were sniffing around.

He's been with the squad. He had back surgery in the summer and is a few weeks behind on fitness apparently. Which is why he hasn't been playing.ChrisC wrote:Where is Boggers? Not seen him even on the bench for the pre season games. Injured? Or on the way out?

Bogdan was definitely there he's been on the videos and pics....
I think almost all our players would be available if anyone put a decent offer on the table. That is no secret.
But I don't think Bogdan isn't playing for that reason. Baptiste played a few hours before he flew off to join Rovers....
