Newly promoted Burnley have signed goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City in a four-year deal worth up to £19m with add-ons.

Tealeaf-readers may like to parse this mid-sentence self-correction from Evatt, reported earlier this week:

"The players we are targeting are all, or mostly, attached to football clubs."

Of course, he could mean Luke Matheson... :D
Yes, I took note and did associate it with the trialists. If we see Dack rock-up tomorrow I'll be a very happy, if somewhat concerned, camper.

That'll be two key signings (Dack and Baxter) with important parts of their anatomy made from rich tea biscuits and hope. And by that I mean knee and shoulder, rather than other very important parts of a gentleman's anatomy that are hopefully better suited to dunking than rich tea biscuits.

Who? Some kid who's been on loan in the lower leagues, no doubt.

Dack would be an ‘out there’ signing for Evatt in many ways. I can’t see it. But then I suspect we might be in the ‘slightly desperate’ category.

Pretty much identical to Lee's signing, isn't it?

A player vastly above the level we're at, but so hampered by injuries that he might be attainable.

An interesting comparison, with the added bonus that Dack (29.5) is three years younger than Sexy was when we signed him.

That said, I’d be surprised if we signed him without plenty of medical due diligence, or managed to keep said diligence quiet. It’s an enticing thought but I’m in seeing-is-believing territory.

Dack was a Premier League standard player a few seasons ago, and is only 29.

I’d stick my neck out and say that he’d either be a complete flop due to injuries, or the best player in the league and get us promoted.

This 100% - however it is only a rumour at this stage.

However its the only rumour this summer that is actually quite exciting.

I’d say not. Lee hadn’t a history of terrible injury. Indeed across his career it doesn’t look too bad. And indeed his injuries were mainly chronic niggles. You could manage them.

Dack has had two ACL’s! You can’t manage that. Or the stresses it places on other parts of the body.

Signing Dack now is the equivalent of signing Stuart Holden after he left Bolton…,

It'd be reet. I've had 1 ACL & 2 meniscus repairs, and my standard wasn't affected in the slightest......

and apropos of nothing, his Wikipedia now states "Having last played for Blackburn Rovers, he has signed a 2 year deal with Bolton Wanderers"

Sheehan is on three ACLs, isn't he? We gave him a deal. Iredale is also on three now.

Lee had to have hip surgery and has been on pain-management therapies since then. He was advised to retire at one stage. He spoke to a mate of mine a couple of years ago and said he'd probably need a hip replacement when he does quit. On top of that he's had other niggling injuries, like you say, mostly as a result of altering his gait to keep his hip going.

We have taken huge risks on players. Lee has missed loads of football. Sheehan and Iredale both redid their knees. Geth misses football and has knee issues. I mean, it's a thing we do. Look at Randy's knee and Dan's hamstrings. Baxter's shoulder and ankle.

We seem fine with those risks.

Dack's knee injuries were particularly bad, so I agree with your concerns and share them. I'm not sure Evatt would, though.

Catching up…is ashworth left centre half or left wing back? I was looking forward to seeing Iredale get a shot at left centre half from the off this season. Sound similar?

Ashworth was seen as a left back by most people. He went to Burton and played both left back and LWB.

He's played as a pivot in the Baggies U23s and as a centre half earlier on.

He's also played as more of a box-to-box midfielder for Wales U21s against Denmark.

You'd think he's the "cover" for Johnstone no? Indirectly at least.

I'm not thrilled, but it's something we needed to do and you don't always get to pick the order. Hopefully he does well.

I'm not sure what I'd think if we signed Dack.

I'd not be jumping for joy, though. I think I'd be more confused than anything.

The thoughts of other supporters should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but the Baggies on Twitter seem disappointed there's an agreement to make Ashworth's signing permanent.

Also the thoughts here of a Burton Albion fan, where Ashworth was on loan in the second half of last season.

Seems he played the majority of his games at LWB for the Brewers.
