Re: The Peacocks are coming to get roasted!
Don't know if anyone's mentioned the 'shots at goal' stats from today (but they're worth repeating anyway). Ordinarily if we were to take 14 shots at goal and not score I'd be miffed. However, of the 14 shots we put in today we didn't even hit the target once. Not once. Now, we know how shit we are at the back but a more recent gripe is that we haven't been creating anything, and we haven't. However, today we created chance enough on 14 occasions for players to deem them worthy enough to have a crack at goal from, and on each of these the goalie didn't even have to touch the ball.

Re: The Peacocks are coming to get roasted!
I've been of the opinion so far that this was just a shaky start and that we'd settle into the season after a first win. Thought Beckford and the new boys would settle in a bit and we'd be off and running. To a point I still think that's the case but it's time for Dougie to make some big decisions. Start knocking down some players a peg or two and dropping them from the matchday squad. I'd start with removing the captain's armband from Knight for one and giving it to someone who gives a shit. Spearing maybe. Time to start sending out the message that previous Premiership experience with the club doesn't guarantee a place in the starting 11 in the Championship.
I certainly wouldn't consider it time to talk about replacing managers but it's time for Dougie to start earning his corn as, for me, what is going on at the moment is down to bad attitudes and man management.

Can we have a proper centre forward please instead of all this Champ Manager bollocks about pulling defenders off, running the channels, holding the freaking thing up etc?

Ngog is a waste of time and quite possibly one of the worst strikers I've seen at Bolton.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Coyle out.

I was there and it was awful. However I thin k we have stumbled on a defence we should stick with. I think Ream should partner Mills for the next few games, give them a chance. Mills is a crap footballer but he's big and strong and doesn't piss about. Ream is mobile and good on the ball and has confidence from his recent midfield efforts. He deserves his chance back in. Plus we need Spearing to play the holding role because he is a destroyer, very limited going forward, often looks like a fish out of water.
Pratley doesn't offer enough support to the main striker, so 4-4-2 is the way forward. Beckford looked more like getting in the right places, making the runs but receiving fook all from midfield. He's still pretty shit though.
Ngog on the other hand was totally shit. I'm sick of defending him and waiting for him to come good. He's not going to and I don't think he wants to be here any more. He's a waste of space who lacks a pair of footballing bollocks (clumsy metaphor I'll grant you). Similarly Medo, he plays like he regrets signing and wonders what he's got himself into.
There's talk of Dougie 'losing the dressing room', don't know but there's players out there who don't look motivated or inspired by him.

Depressing afternoon. No creativity in that side whatsoever. Pleasantly surprised by Ream, maybe deserves a run in the side at centre half and get in a more creative player in the middle. Moritz or Hall perhaps. I like Dougie but he does seem awfully negative. I think there were similar murmurings at Palace before he switched it up a little. Need a spark to ignite the season, a scrappy win against Derby might do it.

Re: The Peacocks are coming to get roasted!
My thoughts exactly. I want him to succeed, but I'm struggling to have any faith in him right now. However his formations line up the approach always seems to be to keep it tight, defend deep, squeeze midfield and hope someone up front comes up with something. If they do, defend even more. It's boring and it's shit. Fair enough when he first came in but you want it to evolve. maybe there's a masterplan in his head but he's not getting it into the players' heads. Or mine, less importantly.Dr.Karl wrote:Depressing afternoon. No creativity in that side whatsoever. Out of curiosity. Did anybody else see Knight go and talk to Spearing as Knight was being taken off, and then Spearing hold out his arms in a "what the feck did I do?" manner?
I wonder what was exchanged there...?

Re: The Peacocks are coming to get roasted!
From the armchair I've been thinking that on the one hand we need cover for the defence, but on t'other if we do that we're not good going forwards. Heard some experts talking about another team refusing to give any cover for the defence when a new manager came in, after a few games they learned how to play. If the central defence gets sorted then midfield and attacking will fall into place... or at least we'll get some 0-0 draws.LeverEnd wrote:I was there and it was awful. The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: The Peacocks are coming to get roasted!
I saw Dougie give Mills a bollocking after an aimless punt into the corner to no-one. I was right behind the flight of the ball and he totally miskicked it. Started gobbiing back at Dougie a bit. This was the man who was drummed out of his last club for falling out with the manager. And the worst thing is we are so shit we need to play the talentless gobby nice person.truewhite15 wrote:Out of curiosity. If I was going to sub-off a CD yesterday, I'd probably have binned off Mills rather than Knight (based solely on yesterday's performance.)LeverEnd wrote:I saw Dougie give Mills a bollocking after an aimless punt into the corner to no-one. Re: The Peacocks are coming to get roasted!
Both were average at best, against a poor strikeforce. I think though Knight needs the rocket, Mills needs rehabilitating as we are stuck with him. It really is a desperate situation.

Re: The Peacocks are coming to get roasted!
I thought all three of the centre-halves did fine. Leeds were generally as bad going forward as we were. I can remember the Maldini of the Mid-West falling on his arse and almost gifting them a second before half time, but other than that they were all solid enough.
Which makes the Knight thing even more baffling. Even if you're one of the people that are convinced our current plight is all his fault, surely his manager making him look a complete dick in the middle of a match isn't helpful? Dropping him before the game would've been fine, but I'm not sure what kind of statement Dougie was trying to make by playing him then hauling him off when he was actually doing ok. It was desperate.
