Cheers Chris, first I've seen of the goals. Think Mills might have been unlucky but he was losing out to Holt and the flailing arm made it look like he swatted it away.
Bit embarrassed for Lee watching that. The way he jumped up unhurt when Boyce pulled his hand away suggests there was minimal if any contact, and definitely not enough to warrant rolling around on the floor like he'd taken a baseball bat to the face.
If any one player deserved to win it it was McMannaman I suppose. Didn't have to hand it to him on a plate though.

Noneless odd that Boyce wasn't given a red for slapping Lee in the face.

Sounds like there was quite a racket.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

The highlights? It's shown the goals.

There was a lot more to the game than that.

The cheer for Mark Davies returning from injury being one.

The run he did to chase the ball when wiggin were on the break was good to see.

Definitely should have been sent off, seems that Wigan got away with everything yesterday.

The Lee one should have been a penalty regardless of contact. The boot is dangerously high, but inside the box, there'd be no way the ref would give it if the player stays on his feet.

Not saying he's right for going down, just that it should've been a penalty anyway

Unsurprisingly, we play much better when we attack teams but show them far too much respect and play into their hands. If we played started every game like we had a 2 goal deficit and then continued to play in that manner throughout the whole game, I don't have any doubt that our results would be much better than they are. It's overly negative management. The only times we play to the best of our ability are when we're already losing, yet we continue to make the same mistakes. Play defensively and concede, go at them and score, defend again until we concede...ugh.

I don't mind defensive football but it has to work to be worth sticking with. Freedman isn't Mourinho and we're not capable of winning games 1-0 every week, so why persist with it? We need to play to our strengths and even though that works when we do, we only employ those tactics when a goal is essential.

It's very poor management but I don't expect anything else from Freedman at this point.

Teams don't sit back at 0-0 like Wigan did at 2-0 up

I agree it was a penalty, just don't like seeing one of ours blatantly play-acting.

As for Boyce Bobo, I at first expected him to go but watching it again I think he pulls Lee's hand away rather than slapping him. He knows there's not been enough contact to be rolling like that and Lee then proves it. He's conceded a penalty, I think a yellow is enough.

what exactly is it that Rosler has managed in 2 weeks that we keep being told could take years? :conf:
I refer the honourable member to a previous post.

Actually, you know what, I'll try to explain. Can you imagine the melt-down that we would have experienced had a Coyle team beaten a Dougie team? I can't either, because we all know its impossible. Therefore, Uwe Rosler clearly has some kind of miracle cure for the massive car-crash that Coyle left, as we know it takes years to rebuild from any mess that old Owen leaves.
ahh - I see - you are saying that winning a game by an odd goal in your second week in charge is a successful post-coyle rebuild...

remind me how long coyle was at Wigan?

subtract that length of time from the length of time he was at Bolton, then record your answer (neatly) at the bottom of your next post.
Correct me if I'm wrong (disclaimer; I'm not), but didn't we win our first match sans Coyle? And then our first match under Freedman?

Not trying to be arsey (disclaimer; I am), but it seems extraordinarily dickish to me to comment on an opposing manager winning their first game after Coyle and using it as a stick to beat our own boss with...

Good lord there's some humourless bastards on here.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

It would also help if some people weren't so touchy about the subject of our manager. Too close to the bone I suspect.

No, I think he's been shite too. But current results are enough of a rod to beat him with without making stuff up. Or conveniently erasing the past.

In fairness, although it did take him a while, it didn't take Freedman years to win one game.
Dougie won his first game with us didn't he?

From the official site
Returning midfielder on the 'best away atmosphere' during his time at Bolton

Despite the weekend’s defeat at Wigan, the game marked a significant moment for midfielder Mark Davies.

The fan favourite was welcomed back to first team action by over 4,500 travelling Bolton fans at the DW Stadium, appearing as a substitute in the 83rd minute.

And after ten months on the sidelines the 25-year-old admitted he was overwhelmed with the reception he received from the travelling fans.

“At the time my main focus was on trying to get us back into the game,” he explained. “It wasn’t until after that a few of boys mentioned it to me.

“The fans were great all game. They gave me goosebumps. To see the fans celebrating the two goals was great.

“To be fair, in terms of an away atmosphere, it’s probably the best I’ve experienced since I’ve been at Bolton. It’s a shame we couldn’t find a way back into the game for them.

“All of the boys are gutted. Right now we want another game straight away. It’s now important that we bounce back as a team.

“Personally, I feel good and fit. The medical team at the club have been great with me so I owe them a big thank you.

“I feel ready to go again now. In terms of fitness, this is the best I’ve felt for a long time.”
