De Bruyne says what I think. We make too many passes. Pointless passes. Every pass in a move increases the likelihood of it breaking down. I get when opposition are set we have to. I’m not asking us to launch it forward aimlessly. But when we create space we over play. When we transition we tend to overplay. We rarely hurt defences early. It’s always more passes or try and create a clever one two flick scenario.

It's what a whole lot of us think. Time to change it some. Worth keeping in mind though that Kevin De Bruyne doesn't earn five grand a week playing in Division One. Even he might struggle to shine a bit more here.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 8:39 pmhttps://x.com/football__tweet/status/18 ... jLPnui--KQ

That's a hell of a read of a quote from Kevin De Bruyne *checks notes* star player for all-conquering Manchester City managed by Pep Guardiola...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 8:39 pmhttps://x.com/football__tweet/status/18 ... jLPnui--KQ

Surely it's reasonable for the manager to say "We have to be careful about putting too much workload on these lads early doors, so as not to break them."Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 12:53 pmWe need Matete in the starting XI asap, he has so much more about him energy, running, desire etc. than the other midfielders.
We can disagree about various issues, but I can't see how not rushing Matete et al can be seen as poor from Evatt.

He’s had a full pre season and as has been said already we never have looked the ‘fittest team’ in the league. If his level of fitness is significantly below our players I’d be surprised. There are some players where you do want to ease them in especially when new to English football or haven’t played a lot for a while. Tutu feels like one of those and Schon too. Matete looks fit and sharp to me. I wouldn’t say it’s poor management just that the game was crying out for him on Saturday and we seemed to leave it too late.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 9:43 pmSurely it's reasonable for the manager to say "We have to be careful about putting too much workload on these lads early doors, so as not to break them."Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 12:53 pmWe need Matete in the starting XI asap, he has so much more about him energy, running, desire etc. than the other midfielders.

How many games did Matete play last season? I thought I read 6? Surely that’s part of the argument for not overloading him. I mean if our medical department (headed up by Dr Nick from the Simpsons) think there’s a risk…there’s probably a risk!

Little point in paying specialist medical advisors if you're going to ignore them. Same might be said about managers. Today's world is more bewildering by the day. A bucket of water and a sponge cured all football ills at one time, now you need a second opinion for a headache. Players are either fit to play or they're not. End of.

It’s quite hard to have a discussion about hypothetical medical advice that people don’t know exists….
If the sports science lot say he wasn’t ready then fair enough. But thats an IF.

At times last season there was an obvious 11, because the rest of the lads (when there were any) just weren't as good.
Good sides tend to see arguments over who should start. Sometimes it goes the other way, where some of your players are so good they're completely untouchable - but this is League One.
I don't agree that we should have been throwing these lads in, but it's nice to see people are positive about them and want to see them play.
It'll be great to see Matete start league games. Same with Desmond, Forino and others. Once they are it'll be a big step forward for us in terms of our depth and options.
We dropped 2 points and people have every right to be annoyed about it. Wanting to see new players given a go is probably the most positive way to voice that.

Tutu is the next one it works be great to come good, for me. Matete would be a bonus, and at least having three v good players is great. But RWB, along with the front three clicking are where it's at.

What I will say about Wrexham is we were vastly improved off the ball. Play like that defensively and there will be a very binary feel to our defensive record. And that gets you very close.

Re: Welcome to Bolton. Wrexham (h), 18/08, 3pm
Tutu needs to be good.
We've spent a couple of years now looking for this type of player and he's the one we've pulled the trigger on.
We obviously have concerns. We've given him 2+1 and if we were sure about him he'd be on a 3-year. That'll be doubts over his fitness, rather than his ability.
We don't need to rush him, because Cogley is a good player; but we do need what he offers in a lot of games. Cogley is an off-the-ball wonder, but his on-the-ball play is poor. We need quality out wide.
Schon looks capable of becoming the best of the both worlds, but it's very early days and he has a lot of flaws in his game to work on.
If Tutu gets injured that's not really any different to him being duff. We just need a quality right wing option on the pitch for a lot of games.
I thought we should have signed Fevrier. I hope Markham has better taste than I do.
Re: Welcome to Bolton. Wrexham (h), 18/08, 3pm
I suspect Matete not starting at the minute is purely down to not fully understanding our system and needing to learn our passing plays.dave the minion wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 10:48 amBut 2 of our more vocal "Evatt out-ers" think he must play, so he must surely? If injuries are a big concern like we think they are given his 6 appearances last season then you wouldn't be expecting him to play in a midweek b team game vs Notts County. And that's just what happened.
